[To be born in the 21st century: maternal-fetal perspectives].
After analyzing the results obtained in 22.239 gestations and assisted childbirths between 1997-2000, as well as the observed trends in these childbirths, it is obtained data that are valid to predict the most probable evolution of a low risk gestation. The ended childbirths happened in 87.3% of patients, but only 27% happened in the 40th week. There was 9.9% of pre-ended childbirths and only 1.7% post-ended, due to they are induced in the 41st week. The prediction of great premature baby continues improving each year, and the mortality starting from 1.000 gr. Is similar to others. It is observed the grave morbidity in 15%, and with possible sequelas in 6%. The childbirth has been iNduced in 13.2%, especially by premature tear of membranes and prevention of post-ended childbirth. The incidents of caesaran operation has been 18.57% in 2001, and forceps 16.7%. This last figure is due to his prophylactic use and the high rate of epidural analgesia (61.3% last year). The standard perinatal mortality has been 4.2% per 1000 chilbirths, and the hospital mortality 9.72% per 1000. These facts are useful to answer the questions that pregnant women make when the date of delivery is close, patients that use to be more than 30 years old in her first gestation, and with tendency to age increase.
