When selecting the appropriate surgical method and determining the surgical indications, it is imperative to consider factors like the length of the Achilles tendon defect, patient age, aesthetic preferences, functional requirements, and local tissue conditions. As medical devices evolve and surgical techniques advance, the criteria for surgical intervention are also evolving. Drawing from existing literature evidence, it becomes crucial to define reasonable parameters for addressing Achilles tendon defects with each surgical technique, aligning more closely with clinical needs. Additionally, auxiliary technologies such as biologic therapy and innovative biomaterials have demonstrated promising results in laboratory or animal models.
