While tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) have shown remarkable efficacy in anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) fusion-positive advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), clinical outcomes vary and acquired resistance remains a significant challenge. We conducted a retrospective study of patients with ALK-positive NSCLC who had clinico-genomic data independently collected from two academic institutions (n=309). This was paired with a large-scale genomic cohort of ALK-positive NSCLC patients who underwent liquid biopsies (n=1118)...

Nitrogen fertilizer supports agricultural intensification, but its manufacturing results in substantial contaminated sites. Ammonia nitrogen is the main specific pollutant in retired nitrogen fertilizer sites with potential human health and odor risks. However, few studies focus on ammonia nitrogen risk assessment at contaminated sites, particularly considering its solid-liquid partitioning process (Kd ) and ammonium/ammonia equilibrium process (R) in the soil. This study took a closed nitrogen fertilizer factory site as an example and innovatively introduced Kd and R to scientifically assess the human health and odor risk of ammonia nitrogen...

Reservoirs play a crucial role in regulating runoff and generating energy. However, they also lead to significant sedimentation in the reservoir area. In this study, we propose an integrated model that combines a 1-D hydro- and sediment dynamic module with a power generation module. The model considers both suspended and bed load transports. This model is applied to the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR) and evaluate its performance against corresponding measurements. The results demonstrate that:① the proposed model accurately reproduces the processes of flow and sediment transport, bed deformation, and power generation during the hydrological years of 2019 and 2020...

BACKGROUND: Advancements in surgical procedures for total joint arthroplasty (TJA) have resulted in more effective procedures with more rapid recovery. To prepare patients for surgery, many organizations offer a preoperative "joint class," which has been associated with reduced length of stay (LOS). Virtual modes of education are increasingly favored for those having TJA. PURPOSE: To determine whether participation in an individually administered preoperative educational session ("Prehab") relates to reduced LOS or increased likelihood of same-day discharge (SDD) for those undergoing TJA...

OBJECTIVES:
McEwen et al, (DOI: 10.1118/1.4866223) introduced a new factor Prp in addendum to TG-51 protocol to account for the radial dose distribution of the photon beam over the detector volume mainly in flattening filter free (FFF) beams. Prp and its extension to non-FFF beam reference dosimetry is investigated. Approches: The Prp was measured using simplified version of Sudhyadhom et al (DOI: 10.1118/1.4941691) for Elekta and Varian FFF beams with two detectors; PTW-30013 and Exradin-A12 ion chambers...

BACKGROUND: Healthcare-associated infections (HCAI) place a significant burden on healthcare systems globally. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to investigate the prevalence, risk factors, and aetiologic agents of endemic HCAI in Africa. METHODS: MEDLINE/PubMed, CINAHL, and Global Health databases (EBSCOhost interface) were searched for studies published in English and French describing HCAI in Africa from 2010 to 2022. We extracted data on prevalence of HCAI, risk factors, aetiologic agents, and associated antimicrobial resistance patterns...

BACKGROUND: A paucity of evidence exists regarding the optimal management for abdominal aortic graft infection. The aim of this paper was to assess short- and long-term outcomes following different surgical options in aortic graft infection patients. METHODS: Medline, Embase and the Cochrane Library were searched from inception to February 2023. Network meta-analysis was performed using a frequentist method. Patients were divided into four treatment groups: complete graft removal with in situ repair, complete graft removal with extra-anatomic repair, partial graft removal with in situ repair and partial graft removal with extra-anatomic repair...

The aim of this study is to identify factors which influence decision-making in older women with operable breast cancer, which will enable us to further understand how to support these patients. METHODS: Systematic review in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines was performed to identify factors which influence treatment decision-making in older women with operable breast cancer...

Mating and receipt of male Sex Peptide hormone cause increased egg laying, increased midgut size and decreased life span in female Drosophila. Feeding mated females with the synthetic steroid mifepristone decreases egg production, reduces midgut size, and increases life span. Here, several gene mutations were assayed to investigate possible mechanisms for mifepristone action. Drosophila Dhr96 is a hormone receptor, and a key positive regulator of midgut lipid uptake and metabolism. Dhr96[1] null mutation increased female life span, and reduced the effects of mifepristone on life span, suggesting that Dhr96[1] mutation and mifepristone may act in part through the same mechanism...
