State-of-the-art technology for cyclohexanone oxime production typically demands elevated temperature and pressure, along with the utilization of expensive hydroxylamine sulfate or oxidants. Here, we propose an electrochemistry-assisted cascade strategy for the efficient cyclohexanone ammoximation under ambient conditions by using in situ cathode-generated green oxidants of reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as OOH* and H2 O2 . This electrochemical reaction can take place at the cathode, achieving over 95% yield, 99% selectivity of cyclohexanone oxime, and an electron-to-oxime (ETO) efficiency of 96%...

This study evaluates the efficacy of the salts sodium metabisulfite (SMB), ammonium bicarbonate, sodium bicarbonate, and potassium dihydrogen orthophosphate first in vitro against the main postharvest fruit rot fungi, Alternaria alternata , Botrytis cinerea , Penicillium italicum , and Penicillium digitatum . Results showed that 0.2% SMB completely inhibited the mycelium growth of the fungal species. Ammonium bicarbonate and sodium bicarbonate were less effective at 0.2% in inhibiting mycelial growth, ranging from 57...

As in most cells, intracellular pH regulation is fundamental for sperm physiology. Key sperm functions like swimming, maturation, and a unique exocytotic process, the acrosome reaction, necessary for gamete fusion, are deeply influenced by pH. Sperm pH regulation, both intracellularly and within organelles such as the acrosome, requires a coordinated interplay of various transporters and channels, ensuring that this cell is primed for fertilization. Consistent with the pivotal importance of pH regulation in mammalian sperm physiology, several of its unique transporters are dependent on cytosolic pH...

OBJECTIVES: Ottelia Pers. is in the Hydrocharitaceae family. Species in the genus are aquatic, and China is their centre of origin in Asia. Ottelia alismoides (L.) Pers., which is distributed worldwide, is a distinguishing element in China, while other species of this genus are endemic to China. However, O. alismoides is also considered endangered due to habitat loss and pollution in some Asian countries. Ottelia alismoides is the only submerged macrophyte that contains three carbon dioxide-concentrating mechanisms, i...

Adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) are characterized by their low immunogenicity and unique immunosuppressive properties, providing many opportunities for autologous transplantation in regenerative medicine and plastic surgery. These methods are characterized by low rejection rates and intense stimulation of tissue regeneration. However, procedures during which fat tissue is harvested occur under local anaesthesia. To better understand the effects and mechanisms of anaesthetic compounds in cosmetic and therapeutic procedures, the present study used a mixture of these compounds (0...

Carboxy-biotin serves as a coenzyme in certain carboxylases, exhibiting the remarkable capability to transfer a carboxy group to specific substrates. This process is made possible by the presence of biotin, a unique molecule that consists of a sulfur-containing tetrahydrothiophene ring fused to a ureido group. It is covalently attached to the enzyme via a flexible linker, allowing for its functionality. Biotin-dependent carboxylases consist of two distinct domains. The first domain (BC) facilitates biotin carboxylation by utilizing ATP, while the second domain (CT) transfers CO2 to the substrate...

H2 O2 produced from water radiolysis is expected to play a significant role in radiation induced oxidative dissolution of spent nuclear fuel under the anoxic conditions of a deep geological repository if the safety-barriers fail and ground water reaches the fuel. It was recently found that the coordination chemistry between U(vi), HCO3 2- and H2 O2 can significantly suppress H2 O2 induced dissolution of UO2 in 10 mM bicarbonate. This was attributed to the much lower reactivity of the U(vi)O2 2+ -coordinated O2 2- as compared to free H2 O2 ...

Normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) offers a superior alternative to hypothermic preservation but is currently time limited. Extending this time could electivise transplantation and enable physiologic assessments of functionality. Porcine kidneys were retrieved, stored on ice for 3.5 hours before being placed onto a NMP circuit for 12 hours. Hemodynamics, biochemistry, and urine output were assessed. After 12 hours, kidneys were scored using the clinical assessment score. Biopsies were collected for histological assessment...

Compared with NaCl, NaHCO3 caused more serious oxidative damage and photosynthesis inhibition in safflower by down-regulating the expression of related genes. Salt-alkali stress is one of the important factors that limit plant growth. NaCl and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3 ) are neutral and alkaline salts, respectively. This study investigated the physiological characteristics and molecular responses of safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) leaves treated with 200 mmol L-1 of NaCl or NaHCO3 . The plants treated with NaCl treatment were less effective at inhibiting the growth of safflower, but increased the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) in leaves...

They are widely expressed in numerous tissues throughout the body and function in different cell types with different membrane properties. Potential lipid roles in SLC4 function have been reported in experimental studies, focusing mostly on two members of the family: AE1 (Cl¯/HCO3 ¯ exchanger) and NBCe1 (Na+ -CO3 2 ¯cotransporter)...

BACKGROUND: Although well-known for their thromboresistance, bileaflet mechanical heart valves (BMHV) require lifelong anti-thrombotic therapy. This must be associated with a certain level of thrombogenicity. Since both thromboresistance and thrombogenicity are explained by the blood-artificial surface or liquid-solid interactions, the aim of the present study was to explore BMHV thromboresistance from new perspectives. The wettability of BMHV pyrolytic carbon (PyC) occluders was investigated in under-liquid conditions...
