Utilizing vegetable oil as a sustainable feedstock, this study presents an innovative approach to ultrasonic-assisted transesterification for biodiesel synthesis. This alkaline-catalyzed procedure harnesses ultrasound as a potent energy input, facilitating the rapid conversion of extra virgin olive oil into biodiesel. In this demonstration, the reaction is run in an ultrasonic bath under ambient conditions for 15 min, requiring a 1:6 molar ratio of extra virgin olive oil to methanol and a minimum amount of KOH as the catalyst...

Herein, we aimed to develop a new environmentally friendly liquid-liquid microextraction (LLME) method based on hydrophobic deep eutectic solvent (hDES) synthesized using biodegradable dl-menthol and decanoic acid for the spectrophotometric determination of toxic basic fuchsin dye in environmental water samples. The parameters affecting the extraction efficiency such as pH, mole ratio, and volume of hDES (1:2) and type and volume of organic solvent, sample volume, times of vortex, ultrasonic bath and centrifuge, ionic strength, and matrix effect were investigated and optimized...

Palmaria palmata is a viable source of nutrients with bioactive properties. The present study determined the potential role of post-extraction ultrasonication on some compositional features and antioxidant properties of enzymatic/alkaline extracts of P. palmata (EAEP). No significant difference was detected in terms of protein content and recovery, as well as the amino acid composition of the extracts. The nitrogen-to-protein conversion factor of 5 was found to be too high for the seaweed and EAEP. The extracts sonicated by bath for 10 min and not sonicated showed the highest and lowest total phenolic contents ( p < 0...

Chemical analysis and sensory evaluation were conducted to assess the impact of ultrasonic treatment on wine quality. Results showed that ultrasonic treatment could increase total anthocyanin and total phenol content, reduce anthocyanin degradation rate, and improve color stability. Moreover, ethyl carbamate content was lower in the ultrasonic group after aging compared to non-ultrasonic group...

Pea proteins lack the desirable functional characteristics for food and beverage applications. In this study, transacylation reaction assisted with ultrasonication was used to glycate pea proteins with propylene glycol alginate to enhance their functional properties. The reaction was carried out at pH 11.0 for different pea protein isolate: propylene glycol alginate mass ratios and time durations in a sonic bath at 40 °C. Glycation was confirmed in gel electrophoresis, and ultrasonication enhanced the glycation, with optimal degrees of glycation observed at 45 min reaction time and mass ratios of 2:1 (37...

Hypersynchronous (HYP) seizure onset is one of the frequently observed seizure-onset patterns in temporal lobe epileptic animals and patients, often accompanied by hippocampal sclerosis. However, the exact mechanisms and ion dynamics of the transition to HYP seizures remain unclear. Transcranial magneto-acoustic stimulation (TMAS) has recently been proposed as a novel non-invasive brain therapy method to modulate neurological disorders. Therefore, we propose a biophysical computational hippocampal network model to explore the evolution of HYP seizure caused by changes in crucial physiological parameters and design an effective TMAS strategy to modulate HYP seizure onset...

The present study aimed to investigate the effect of a H2 S donor, GYY 4137, on human pulmonary arteries and whether low-frequency ultrasound (20 kHz, 4 W/cm2 ) inhibits GYY 4137 contractions. Functional studies were conducted on human and rat pulmonary arteries mounted on microvascular myographs. We placed an ultrasonic gadget in the tissue organ bath to insonate the arteries with low-frequency ultrasound. To measure the effect of the low-frequency ultrasound on the entrance of extracellular Ca2+ , the preparations were placed in a Ca2+ -free solution, and the thromboxane agonist, U46619, and extracellular calcium were added in the presence of insonation...

In this work, zinc oxide nanocrystals were synthesized by irradiating and heating at 90 °C in a commercial ultrasonic bath a water solution of zinc nitrate hexahydrate and ammonia solution or hexamethylenetetramine as base catalysts. The evolution of the powder morphology and its crystalline structure was investigated at different times of ultrasonic irradiation (0-9 hours) and compared with samples obtained only by heating the solutions in a muffle furnace in order to enlighten the growth mechanism...

Compared with WB, microwave, and ultrasound treatments, the combined UM treatment greatly promoted the glycation reaction because ultrasound and microwave mutually reinforced modification effects. The resultant conjugate structure tended to unfold with more flexible conformation and homogeneous morphology...
