Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) which belongs to family Lythraceae, is one of the most important fruit crops of many tropical and subtropical regions. A high variability in fruit color is observed among different pomegranate accessions, which arises from the qualitative and quantitative differences in anthocyanins. However, the mechanism of fruit color variation is still not fully elucidated. In the present study, we investigated the red color mutation between a red-skinned pomegranate 'Hongbaoshi' and a purple-red-skinned cultivar 'Moshiliu', by using transcriptomic and metabolomic approaches...

PURPOSE: Abnormal patellar height has been identified as a source of aberrant mechanical functioning within the patellofemoral joint. The purpose of this study is to examine the statistical agreement among three commonly used classification methods: Blackburne-Peel (BPI), Caton-Deschamps (CDI) and Insall-Salvati (ISR), by evaluating (1) the rates of patella alta identification and (2) the ability for one index to predict another. METHODS: One hundred lateral knee radiographs were evaluated using BPI, CDI and ISR to classify each knee as patella normal, patella alta or patella baja...

Osgood-Schlatter disease (OSD) reduces participation in sports activities for adolescents, and, in unresolved cases of the disease in which daily life or sports activity after skeletal maturity are affected, surgical intervention to remove the ossicle is performed to alleviate symptoms. We present a real-time virtual sonography (RVS)-guided ossicle removal in unresolved OSD. The knee joint angle is set at 20°, which is the same position used in magnetic resonance imaging. A 1.5-cm longitudinal skin incision is made at the medial side of the tuberosity...

In the search for pharmaceutically active compounds from natural products, it is crucial and challenging to develop separation methods that target not only structurally similar compounds but also a class of compounds with desired pharmaceutical functions. To achieve both structure-oriented and function-oriented selectivity, the choice of functional monomers with broad interactions or even biomimetic roles towards targeted compounds is essential. In this work, an imidazole (IM)-functionalized paper membrane was synthesized to realize selectivity...

Herein, the performance of asymmetric supercapacitors (ASC) fabricated using ZnCo2O4 (ZCO) nano-hexagons and orange peel-derived activated carbon (OPAC) as electrodes was studied. ZCO was prepared by a double hydroxide method and OPAC was prepared from orange peel followed by KOH activation. For ZCO, the calcination temperature was determined using TGA analysis. The XRD showed the presence of a cubic spinel structure. The chemical structure was analyzed using XPS, FTIR, and Raman spectroscopy respectively. For OPAC, the presence of an amorphous nature was inferred; FTIR and Raman studies indicate the presence of functional groups and defect structure in the material...

Consumer priorities in healthy diets and lifestyle boosted the demand for nutritious and functional foods as well as plant-based ingredients. Avocado has become a food trend due to its nutritional and functional values, which in turn is increasing its consumption and production worldwide. Avocado edible portion has a high content of lipids, with the pulp and its oil being rich in monounsaturated fatty acids and essential omega - 3 and omega - 6 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). These fatty acids are mainly esterified in triacylglycerides, the major lipids in pulp, but also in minor components such as polar lipids (phospholipids and glycolipids)...

In this study, an antibacterial material (CNF@CoMn-NS) with oxidase-like activity was created using ultrathin cobalt‑manganese nanosheets (CoMn-NS) with a larger specific surface area grown onto pineapple peel cellulose nanofibrils (CNF). The results showed that the CoMn-NS grew well on the CNF, and the obtained CNF@CoMn-NS exhibited good oxidase-like activity. The imidazole salt framework of the CNF@CoMn-NS contained cobalt and manganese in multiple oxidation states, enabling an active redox cycle and generating active oxygen species (ROS) such as singlet molecular oxygen atoms (1 O2 ) and superoxide radical (·O2 - ), resulting in the significant inactivation of Staphylococcus aureus (74...
