Nurses over 40 are at greater risk of burnout than younger ones due to 'compassion fatigue' after years of service and pressures such as caring for elderly parents. Employers need to adjust working conditions and allow them time to refresh their practice. Older nurses should avoid taking on too many responsibilities -and enjoy their social life.
