BACKGROUND: There is an increasing demand for comprehensive geriatric care. Nurse practitioners (NPs), who undergo specialized training, are situated to provide such care. In Israel, the role of a geriatric nurse practitioner was introduced in the health care system 10 years ago. However, little is known about the rate of professional satisfaction and realization of full potential among these nurses. PURPOSE: The aims of this study are (1) to describe the geriatric NP workforce in Israel, (2) to measure the current geriatric scope of practice, and (3) to measure the geriatric NP satisfaction from their working environment...

BACKGROUND: In neurosurgical practice, continuous care after discharge and the ability to detect subtle indicators of clinical deterioration are mandatory to prevent the progression of a disease. The care of 'unknown' patients discharged to rehabilitation homes may not have this privilege, especially in resource-poor countries such as India. OBJECTIVE: We have attempted to study the causes and outcomes of re-admissions of 'unknown' patients with previous traumatic brain injury (TBI) to estimate the quality of nursing care in our rehabilitation centers...

During the COVID-19 pandemic, social isolation had a devastating effect on well-being. Veterans were among the most vulnerable given their high rates of military trauma-related conditions. Research supports that dogs can provide veterans with a sense of purpose, social support, and stress management. Digital storytelling provided a unique perspective with focus on a recognized hero, the veteran's dog, and an opportunity for engagement with other veterans during COVID-19. The purpose of the study was to assess the feasibility of this digital storytelling intervention based on Story Theory framework and tailored to encompass components of cross-generational collaboration in combination with individual and group virtual sessions as a mechanism to promote social engagement...

BACKGROUND: Implementation science helps generate approaches to expedite the uptake of evidence in practice. Mixed methods are commonly used in implementation research because they allow researchers to integrate distinct qualitative and quantitative methods and data sets to unravel the implementation process and context and design contextual tools for optimizing the implementation. To date, there has been limited discussion on how to ensure rigor in mixed methods implementation research...

PURPOSE: Worry is an intuitive sense that goes beyond logical reasoning and is valuable in situations where patients' conditions are rapidly changing or when objective data may not fully capture the complexity of a patient's situation. Nurse anesthetists' subjective reasons for worry are quite vague as they are valued inconsistently and not accurately expressed. This study aimed to identify factors playing a role in the emergence of worry during anesthesia practice to clarify its concept...

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Wearable wireless sensors for continuous vital signs monitoring (CVSM) offer the potential for early identification of patient deterioration, especially in low-intensity care settings like general wards. This study aims to review advances in wearable CVSM - with a focus on the general ward - highlighting the technological characteristics of CVSM systems, user perspectives and impact on patient outcomes by exploring recent evidence. RECENT FINDINGS: The accuracy of wearable sensors measuring vital signs exhibits variability, especially notable in ambulatory patients within hospital settings, and standard validation protocols are lacking...

This editorial delves into the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into nursing documentation, emphasizing its potential to streamline workflows, reduce human error, and enhance patient care. AI technologies, notably natural language processing and decision support systems, present opportunities to automate tedious documentation tasks and enhance record accuracy. However, their adoption raises ethical considerations, such as privacy, bias, and accountability. Striking a balance between technological advancements and ethical imperatives is pivotal to harnessing the benefits of AI while safeguarding patient safety and upholding professional integrity in nursing practice...

BACKGROUND: Residents in long-term care homes (LTCHs) are often diagnosed with chronic, life-limiting illnesses, and it is now a common site to provide high levels of care and eventual death. There is an urgent need to address communication gaps and uncertainties surrounding resident's end of life preferences. Nurses are well situated to be key facilitators of necessary advance care planning (ACP), ensuring residents have discussions with family, substitute decision-makers and healthcare providers regarding future health and personal care preferences...

BACKGROUND: In resource-limited settings, addressing infections remains a substantial challenge in the management of children with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). In Indonesia, infection-related mortality (IRM) is thought to be high compared to high-income countries. BACKGROUND: In Morocco, despite various initiatives to improve the quality of reproductive healthcare, the indicators remain unfavorable. To strengthen the skills of midwives and support the achievement of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) 4 and 5 by 2030, Morocco has developed and implemented a competency-based training framework. However, there is a lack of information on the successful implementation of this program and its impact on the quality of student midwives' preparation for practice...

The population of children requiring intensive care in Victoria has increased and changed markedly since the 1990s, the result of many epidemiological, demographic, and social changes, and this is more evident during and after the Covid pandemic. The model of ultra-centralised paediatric intensive care services in the 1990s is not sufficient for the current era, and services are under daily pressure. Solutions will take time and need to be wide-ranging, including increased critical care capacity in selected regional centres, decentralisation of some services for low-risk conditions, improvements and reforms in medical and nursing education, pre-service and post-graduate, including for other acute care disciplines and for general practitioners and a more structured state-wide paediatric system...

Infertility remains a persistent global reproductive health challenge, with causative factors encompassing abnormalities in both the male and female reproductive systems. Typically, female partners seek initial consultations for infertility concerns, often within the context of routine annual well-woman check-ups. Nurses providing preventive care play a crucial role, conducting initial diagnostic assessments, and addressing certain causes of infertility. Patient satisfaction serves as a vital indicator of care quality...

BACKGROUND: Reduced work readiness is associated with elevated turnover rates, necessitating efforts to enhance the positive work readiness of newly graduated nurses to alleviate the shortage in the nursing workforce. Research into the work readiness of recent nursing graduates in China is still in its infancy. Most studies employ quantitative research methods, and further exploration of the self-perception of work readiness among new nurses in China is required. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to investigate genuine experiences and self-perceptions of work readiness among new graduate nurses...

This study aimed to describe the narratives of older adults with chronic illness during COVID-19, connect them to the broader literature and use them as exemplars for a holistic analysis of policies for respiratory pandemics. Using narratives related to COVID-19 experiences from a larger research study on spiritual coping with chronic heart failure, the study rendered the themes of isolation, uncertainty, and making the best of it which were connected to additional literature validating the experiences of the participants...
