We describe two nonconsanguineous white patients with multiple pigmented basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) that were histopathologically confirmed. The first patient had calcification of the cerebral falx, multiple keratocysts in the jaw, and other malformations of the cranial and finger bones. The second patient presented with multiple dermoid cysts, calcification of the cerebral falx, keratocysts of the mandible, and agenesis of left kidney. Both patients had palmar pits. Both denied any family history of cutaneous tumours...

Steroids (corticosteroids) are anti-inflammatory drugs. Corticosteroids are used in many pulmonary conditions. Corticosteroids have a proven beneficial role in asthma, croup (Laryngotracheobronchitis), decreasing the risk and severity of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis, interstitial lung disease, hemangioma of trachea, Pulmonary eosinophillic disorders. Role of corticosteroids is controversial in many conditions e.g. idiopathic pulmonary hemosiderosis, bronchiolitis, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, hyperplasia of thymus, bronchiolitis, acute respiratory distress syndrome, aspiration syndromes, atypical pneumonias, laryngeal diphtheria, AIDS, SARS, sarcoidosis, meconium aspiration syndrome (MAS), pulmonary haemorrhage, bronchitis, bronchiolitis obliterans with organizing pneumonia in JRA, histiocytosis, alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, bordtella pertusis, pulmonary involvement in histiocytosis...

Sweet's syndrome is defined as acute febrile neutrophilic dermatosis. Characteristic features are fever; peripheral neutrophilia; and painful cutaneous nodules and plaques on the face, neck, trunk, and limbs. Biopsy specimens of these lesions show a mature neutrophilic infiltrate of the dermis. Vasculitis is absent. Sweet's syndrome is associated with malignancy in approximately 20% of reported cases. The pathogenesis is unknown. The authors describe Sweet's syndrome in a 39-year-old man 5 weeks after splenic irradiation for chronic myelogenous leukemia...

REVIEW
R M Pertusi
Antiphospholipid antibody syndromes are primarily manifested as unexplained thrombotic events. Several antiphospholipid antibodies have been identified, the lupus anticoagulant being the most recognized. Considerable confusion surrounds this "anticoagulant," which is highly correlated with an increased risk of thrombosis. Several assays have been designed for the detection of antiphospholipid antibodies. There are limitations on their efficacy and interpretation requires judgment. Treatment strategies for the clinical manifestations of the antiphospholipid antibody syndrome are being developed...
