BACKGROUND: Persistent genital arousal disorder (PGAD) is a highly distressing, understudied condition characterized by persistent genital arousal (eg, genital sensations, sensitivity) in the absence of sexual desire. Currently, there is limited information about the prevalence of PGAD based on its proposed diagnostic criteria ("PGAD criteria"). AIM: This study sought to assess the prevalence of PGAD criteria in 2 North American samples: a large, non-clinical sample of Canadian undergraduate students (Study 1), and a nationally representative sample from the U...

There are very few studies in literature about Persistent Genital Arousal Disorder (PGAD) prevalence to date, and no one has ever been done in Italy. This study replicated the earlier Canadian research in order to investigate the prevalence of PGAD diagnostic criteria in an Italian group of 679 female university students and to compare the results with those obtained in the Canadian group. In addition, the research aimed at verifying if the type or number of PGAD criteria met and the intensity of symptoms are associated with more negative emotions, and if they can be related to age and sexual orientation...

The present paper is describing a case of persistent genital arousal disorder that developed to a 55-year-old woman, shortly after the initiation of zolpidem. Persistent genital arousal disorder (PGAD) is a clinical entity that appears with a relatively low frequency in women, and is characterized by persistent or recurrent, unwanted and bothersome feelings of genital arousal, which often do not resolve with orgasm and are not associated with sexual desire (sexual interest, thoughts or fantasies). Women who experience PGAD often have feelings of shame, guilt and distress...

INTRODUCTION: Persistent genital arousal (PGAD) is a syndrome of unprovoked sexual arousal/orgasm of uncertain cause primarily reported in female patients. Most patients are referred for mental-health treatment, but as research suggests associations with neurological symptoms and conditions, there is need to analyze cases comprehensively evaluated by neurologists. METHODS: The IRB waived consent requirements for this retrospective university-hospital study. We extracted and analyzed neurological symptoms, test, and treatment results from all qualifying participants' records and recontacted some for details...

Acinetobacter baumannii is a frequent cause of the nosocomial infections. Herein, a novel isothermal amplification technique, multiple cross displacement amplification (MCDA) is employed for detecting all A. baumannii strains and identifying the strains harboring blaOXA-23-like gene. The duplex MCDA assay, which targets the pgaD and blaOXA-23-like genes, could identify the A. baumannii isolates and differentiate these isolates harboring blaOXA-23-like gene. The disposable lateral flow biosensors (LFB) were used for analyzing the MCDA products...

INTRODUCTION: Persistent genital arousal disorder (PGAD) is a condition that is still poorly understood. Etiologies reported for PGAD are vascular, neurological, pharmacological, and psychological. Determining the neurophysiological etiology of PGAD began with developing an understanding of the underlying biomechanics of the pudendal nerve and the female sexual response. AIM: To summarize the anatomy, physiology, etiologies, diagnostics, and treatments of the pertinent peripheral nerves involved in the pathology of PGAD...

This study investigated the non-thermal effects of Wi-Fi radiofrequency radiation of 2.4 GHz on global gene expression in Escherichia coli K-12 DH5α. High-throughput RNA-sequencing of 2.4 GHz exposed and non-exposed bacteria revealed that 101 genes were differentially expressed (DEGs) at P ≤ 0.05. The up-regulated genes were 52 while the down-regulated ones were 49. QRT-PCR analysis of pgaD, fliC, cheY, malP, malZ, motB, alsC, alsK, appB and appX confirmed the RNA-seq results. About 7% of DEGs are involved in cellular component organization, 6% in response to stress stimulus, 6% in biological regulation, 6% in localization, 5% in locomotion and 3% in cell adhesion...

BACKGROUND: Persistent genital arousal disorder (PGAD) is a woman's perception that she is in a state of sexual arousal, without the ability of arousal to be satisfied by orgasm. It is the hypothesis of this study that PGAD results from a minimal degree of nerve compression of the dorsal branch of the pudendal nerve. If this is true, PGAD could be treated by neurolysis of the dorsal branch of the pudendal nerve. METHODS: A retrospective chart review from 2010 through 2018, of those women having neurolysis of the dorsal branch of the pudendal nerve for PGAD...

The traditional microbiological methods used for detecting Acinetobacter baumannii were usually time-consuming and labor-intensive. Thus, we sought to establish a novel rapid detecting method for target pathogen. A set of multiple cross displacement amplification (MCDA) primers was designed to recognize 10 different regions of the pgaD gene, which was conservative and specific for the bacterium. In the MCDA system, amplification primers D1 and R1 were 5'-labeled with FITC (fluorescein) and biotin, respectively...

Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally. Accumulating evidence indicates that local resident stem/progenitor cells play an important role in vascular regeneration. Recently, it is demonstrated that a histone deacetylase 7-derived 7-amino acid peptide (7A, MHSPGAD) is critical in modulating the mobilization and orientated differentiation of these stem/progenitor cells. Here, its therapeutic efficacy in vascular repair and regeneration is evaluated. In vitro functional analyses reveal that the 7A peptide, in particular phosphorylated 7A (7Ap, MH[pSer]PGAD), could increase stem cell antigen-1 positive (Sca1+ ) vascular progenitor cell (VPC) migration and differentiation toward an endothelial cell lineage...

Escherichia coli (E. coli) is associated with an array of health-threatening contaminations, some of which are related to biofilm states. The pgaABCD-encoded poly-beta-1,6-N-acetyl-D-glucosamine (PGA) polymer plays an important role in biofilm formation. This study was conducted to determine the inhibitory effect of gallic acid (GA) against E. coli biofilm formation. Minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) values of GA against planktonic E. coli were 0.5 and 4 mg/mL, and minimal biofilm inhibitory concentration and minimal biofilm eradication concentration values of GA against E...
