Anemia is a common complication of chronic kidney disease (CKD) that has been classically attributed to inadequate production of endogenous erythropoietin.1 Though there are many other common causes of refractory anemia in CKD like iron deficiency, vitamin B12, and folic acid deficiency, noncompliance to dialysis and erythropoietin therapy rare causes like blood loss, bone marrow failure, infections causing aplastic crisis like CMV, parvovirus B19 should be ruled out. Parvovirus has an extreme tropism for erythroid cells and is an uncommon cause of anemia in patients with CKD on maintenance dialysis (MHD) and on erythropoietin...

DESIGN: This study by Laky et al. is a single-centre, double-blinded randomised placebo-controlled clinical trial, examining the effects of micronutrient supplementation in combination with non-surgical hygiene phase therapy (nsHPT) for Stage III and IV periodontal disease. The study was carried out at the Medical University of Vienna (Austria), School of Dentistry. The patients enrolled in the study were randomised to receive a commercially available multi-nutrient supplement (containing: vitamin C, vitamin E, zinc, selenium, alpha-lipoic-acid, cranberry extract, grapeseed extract, and coenzyme Q10) or a cellulose placebo to take for 2 months, alongside a course of non-surgical hygiene phase therapy...

Kiwifruit is widely cultivated for its high vitamin C content and nutritional value. In January 2022, root rot symptoms were found in about 30% of Actinidia chinensis cv. Jinyan plants grafted on A. deliciosa rootstocks in an orchard located in Sanming (26.32°N, 117.23°E), Fujian Province of China. The affected plants appeared stunted, with brown and decaying roots, some of which were covered with white hyphae. To isolate the pathogen, the surfaces of typical symptomatic roots were sterilized for 30 s using 75% ethanol, followed by four rinses in sterile water, placing on potato dextrose agar (PDA), and incubating away from light at 25°C for 7 days...

The Star fruit (Averrhoa carambola L.) was globally distributed, particularly in countries like China, India, Indonesia and was renowned for its abundant vitamin, mineral and antioxidant content (Reddy et al., 2023). In early February 2023, leaf spot symptoms were observed on A. carambola at 2 hectare model orchard, College farm, Agricultural College, Aswaraopet (17.252038 latitude, 81.109574 longitude) and Horticulture nurseries of Aswaraopet, Bhadradri Kothagudem (Dist), Telangana, India. BACKGROUND: Since, Vitamin D [1α,25(OH)2 D)] enhances antimicrobial activity of Innate immunity and modulate Adaptive immune responses, simultaneously, so it play a potential role for balanced immune activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and restricting tissue injuries within the TB patients.(Chun et al., 2011) 9 We aimed to determine the role of adjunct Vitamin D treatment on the outcome of pulmonary tuberculosis patients and evaluated the effect of Vitamin D administration on Differential Leucocyte Count, Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate, serum Adenosine deaminase, serum C- reactive protein, Oxygen saturation (SpO2) and Body Weight in Vitamin D deficient pulmonary tuberculosis patients...

In this work, we proposed a double moving redox boundary (MROB) model to realize the colorless analyte electrophoresis titration (ET) by the two steps of the redox reaction. Single MROB has been proposed for the development of ET sensing (Analyst, 2013, 138, 1137. ACS Sensor, 2019, 4, 126.), and faces great challenges in detecting the analyte without color change during redox reaction. Herein, a novel model of double-MROB electrophoresis, including its mechanisms, equations, and procedures, was developed for titration by using ascorbic acid as a model analyte...

BACKGROUND: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a relapsing, chronic cutaneous inflammatory disease with onset, in general, in early childhood. Chronic skin inflammation is associated with overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as superoxide and hydrogen peroxide. Oxidative stress, an imbalance between the production of free radicals and antioxidant defense, results in tissue inflammation due to the upregulation of genes that encode inflammatory cytokines. This condition plays an important role in the pathogenesis of AD...

Early-stage disease symptoms included light brown necrotic lesions of irregular shape ranging in length from 0.2 to 2.4 cm, which turned into leaf blight after approximately 2 weeks. Those symptoms were similar to those previously reported during a Pestalotiopsis sp. infection on kiwi trees in Turkey (Karakaya 2001)...

Ascorbic acid (or widely known as vitamin C, VC) is an essential antioxidant and a free radical scavenger in human body. The appeal for reliable fluorescent nanosensors always promotes the development of VC probe. In this work, a pre-oxidized Eu-probe (denoted as Eu-NO9 ) was synthesized. Without VC, Eu-NO9 was nearly non-emissive owing to the inefficient ligand energy transfer (ET) to Eu ion (caused by mismatched ligand level and long distance to Eu, as revealed by single crystal analysis and emissive parameters)...
