BACKGROUND: Mimosa bimucronata originates from tropical America and exhibits distinctive leaf movement characterized by a relative slow speed. Additionally, this species possesses the ability to fix nitrogen. Despite these intriguing traits, comprehensive studies have been hindered by the lack of genomic resources for M. bimucronata. RESULTS: To unravel the intricacies of leaf movement and nitrogen fixation, we successfully assembled a high-quality, haplotype-resolved, reference genome at the chromosome level, spanning 648 Mb and anchored in 13 pseudochromosomes...

BACKGROUND: Aquaporins (AQPs) are transmembrane channel proteins. Aquaporin 1 (AQP1), Aquaporin 3 (AQP3), and Aquaporin 7 (AQP7) are expressed in the jejunum. The purpose of this study was to ascertain how a high-fat high-fructose diet (HFFD) and intermittent fasting (IF) affect AQP1, AQP3, and AQP7 expression in the rat jejunum. METHODS: Sixteen adult male rats were divided into control rats (n = 4) fed on a basal diet and water ad libitum for 12 weeks; IF control rats (n = 4) followed the IF protocol, HFFD-fed rats (n = 8) fed HFFD for eight weeks, and rats were randomized into two groups: HFFD only or HFFD and IF protocol from the beginning of the 9th week until the end of the experiment...

Although organ transplantation is effective, it faces challenges such as declining quality of life, immunological responses, transplant rejection, and donor shortages. Tissue engineering, utilizing suitable scaffolds, cells, and growth factors, emerges as a promising treatment option for kidney regeneration. The flower's color is regarded as one of the most outstanding features of the rose. Rosa praelucens Byhouwer, an endemic and critically endangered decaploid wild rose species, is abundant in phenotypic diversity, especially in flower color variation, from white to different degrees of pink. The mechanism underlying this variation, e.g., the level of petal-color-related genes, is worth probing. Seven candidate reference genes for qRT-PCR analysis, including tubulin α chain ( TUBA ), glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase ( GAPDH ), histone H2B ( Histone2A ), eukaryotic translation elongation factor 1-α ( EEF1A ), 60S ribosomal protein ( RPL37 ), eukaryotic translation initiation factor 1-α ( EIF1A ), and aquaporins ( AQP ), were detected from the transcriptome datasets of full blooming flowers of white-petaled and pink-petaled individuals, and their expression stabilities were evaluated through qRT-PCR analysis...

The systemic use of tranexamic acid (TA) as an oral drug could bring adverse reactions, while intradermal injection leads to pain and a risk of infection. Moreover, it is difficult for highly hydrophilic TA to penetrate the skin barrier that contains lots of hydrophobic lipid compounds, which poses enormous restrictions on its topical application. Current transdermal TA delivery strategies, are suffering from low drug load rates, plus its synthesis complexity, time-consumption etc., adding to the difficulty of TA topical application in clinical therapeutics...

Fusarium head blight (FHB) is a devastating disease that occurs in warm and humid environments. The German wheat Centrum has displayed moderate to high levels of FHB resistance in the field for many years. In this study, an F6:8 recombinant inbred line (RIL) population derived from cross Centrum × Xinong 979 was evaluated for FHB response following point inoculation in five environments. The population and parents were genotyped using the GenoBaits Wheat 16 K Panel. Stable quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with FHB resistance in Centrum were mapped on chromosome arms 2DS and 5BS...

Aquaporins (AQPs) are important for water transport in the gastrointestinal tract. Changes in their expression and/or localization could cause in disorders and be used as therapeutic targets. Aquaporin-4 (AQP4) is expressed predominantly on the basolateral membrane of the parietal cells in the corpus of the murine gastric glands. Although the secretion of gastric juice is not affected in AQP4-deficient knockout, we evaluated by light microscopy whether the lack of AQP4 affects the glycopatterns of secreting gastric cells...

Acute pyelonephritis (APN) is most frequently caused by uropathogenic Escherichia coli (UPEC), which ascends from the bladder to the kidneys during a urinary tract infection. Patients with APN have been reported to have reduced renal concentration capacity under challenged conditions, polyuria and increased aquaporin-2 (AQP2) excretion in the urine. We have recently shown increased AQP2 accumulation in the plasma membrane in cell cultures exposed to E. coli lysates and in the apical plasma membrane of inner medullary collecting ducts in a 5-day APN mouse model...

However, the presence of AQP-10, -11 and -12 has not been reported in the rat stria vascularis (SV) to date. Mosquitoes (Anopheles sinensis), widely geographically distributed in Asia including China, are the primary vector of the malaria parasite Plasmodium vivax and other parasitic diseases such as Malayan filariasis. An. sinensis can survive through low winter temperatures. Aquaporin channels are found in all life forms, where they facilitate environmental adaptation by allowing rapid trans-cellular movement of water (classical aquaporins) or water and solutes such as glycerol (aquaglyceroporins). Here, we identified and characterized 2 aquaporin (AQP) homologs in An...

INTRODUCTION: The expression and localization of the water channel transporters, aquaporins (AQPs), in the brain are substantially modified in gliomas during tumorigenesis, cell migration, edema formation, and resolution. We hypothesized that the molecular changes associated with AQP1 and AQP4 in the brain may potentially be anticancer therapeutic targets. To test this hypothesis, a bioinformatics analysis of publicly available data from international consortia was performed. METHODS: We used RNA-seq as an experimental strategy and identified the number of differential AQP1 and AQP4 transcript expressions in glioma tissue compared to normal brain tissue...

With climate change, selection for water efficiency and heat resilience are vitally important. We undertook this study to determine the effect of chronic cyclic heat stress (HS) on the hypothalamic expression profile of water homeostasis-associated markers in high (HWE)- and low (LWE)-water efficient chicken lines. HS significantly elevated core body temperatures of both lines. However, the amplitude was higher by 0.5-1°C in HWE compared to their LWE counterparts. HWE line drank significantly less water than LWE during both thermoneutral (TN) and HS conditions, and HS increased water intake in both lines with pronounced magnitude in LWE birds...

In addition to aquaporin (AQP) classes AQP1, AQP4 and AQP9 known to be expressed in mammalian brain, our recent transcriptomic analyses identified AQP0 and  AQP11 in human cortex and hippocampus at levels correlated with age and Alzheimer's Disease (AD) status; however, protein localization remained unknown. Roles of AQP0 and AQP11 in transporting hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in lens and kidney prompted our hypothesis that upregulation in brain might similarly be protective. Established cell lines for astroglia (1321N1) and neurons (SHSY5Y, differentiated with retinoic acid), were used to monitor changes in  transcript levels for human AQPs (AQP0 to AQP12)  in response to inflammation (simulated with 10-100 ng/ml lipopolysaccharide (LPS), 24 h), and hypoxia (5 min N2, followed by 0 to 24 h normoxia)...
