UNLABELLED: Novel antimicrobial agents are needed to combat antimicrobial resistance. This study tested novel pentafluorosulfanyl-containing triclocarban analogs for their potential antibacterial efficacy. Standard procedures were used to produce pentafluorosulfanyl-containing triclocarban analogs. Twenty new compounds were tested against seven Gram-positive and Gram-negative indicator strains as well as 10 clinical isolates for their antibacterial and antibiofilm activity. Mechanistic investigations focused on damage to cell membrane, oxidizing reduced thiols, iron-sulfur clusters, and oxidative stress to explain the compounds' activity...

BACKGROUND AND RATIONALE: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has left no person unexposed to the wisdom about the need for human preparedness to tackle future pandemics irrespective of individual caste, race, religion, and education status. The extent of this change in knowledge and public perspective is difficult to measure in a populous nation like India subjected to individual freedom and cultural beliefs. Hence, we planned this study with the objective of evaluating the knowledge and perception of the Indian public towards COVID-19 disease, vaccination and research activities associated with the COVID-19 pandemic...

BackgroundThe pet industry is expanding worldwide, particularly raw meat-based diets (RMBDs). There are concerns regarding the safety of RMBDs, especially their potential to spread clinically relevant antibiotic-resistant bacteria or zoonotic pathogens.AimWe aimed to investigate whether dog food, including RMBD, commercially available in Portugal can be a source of Salmonella and/or other Enterobacteriaceae strains resistant to last-line antibiotics such as colistin.MethodsFifty-five samples from 25 brands (21 international ones) of various dog food types from 12 suppliers were screened by standard cultural methods between September 2019 and January 2020...

AIM: To investigate how structural empowerment and power may contribute to and predict the reduction of medical errors. BACKGROUND: Medical errors threaten patient well-being, leading to adverse outcomes. Improving work conditions holds promise for reducing medical errors among nurses. METHODS: A multisite correlational cross-sectional design was utilized. Data were completed by 375 nurses from four hospitals in Jordan. Data collection occurred between September and November 2023 using sociodemographic, structural empowerment, and medical error questionnaires...

The human papillomavirus (HPV) belongs to the Papillomavirus family and is considered a non-enveloped virus. HPV affects individuals by causing both benign and malignant lesions. We aim to define HPV and its important characteristics, explain the relation between HPVs and cervical cancer, review its prevalence among Saudi women and their awareness of screening and prevention of cervical cancer, and focus on the importance of HPV vaccination. The persistence of HPV infection is the most important risk factor for the development of cervical cancer...

INTRODUCTION: Vitamin D deficiency is the most common nutritional deficiency worldwide. Chronic vitamin D deficiency causes immune system dysfunction, which increases susceptibility to pathogens such as bacteria, especially intracellular parasites, and viruses. Chlamydia trachomatis (C. t) is an obligate intracellular parasitic bacterium that causes a variety of sequelae. We speculated that vitamin D might be associated with C. t infection. This study aimed to address this gap in knowledge by investigating the relationship between vitamin D and C...

The effect of fermentation and drying temperatures, caliber and sodium lactate on Listeria monocytogenes inactivation was studied in salami, produced in a pilot scale, inoculated with 107 CFU/g of Listeria innocua ATCC® 33090 as a surrogate microorganism for L. monocytogenes. Fermentation temperature varied between 24 and 30 °C, drying temperature between 14 and 20 °C, caliber between 5.1 and 13.2 cm and sodium lactate initial concentrations in salamis were 0 and 2 %. L. innocua counts, pH and water activity were determined in salamis over time...

BACKGROUND: Project ECHO® networks at Children's Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service (CHQHHS) are communities of practice designed to mitigate services and systems fragmentation by building collaborative partnerships addressing priority child and youth health needs. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people experience the negative impacts of fragmentation in addition to historical challenges of absent or culturally inappropriate health services. Access to culturally safe and responsive services can be improved by engaging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and similar roles in an online community of practice, supporting the integration of cultural and clinical knowledge and self-determination of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander consumers in decisions affecting their health...

Cultivated meat production requires bioprocess optimization to achieve cell densities that are multiple orders of magnitude higher compared to conventional cell culture techniques. These processes must maximize resource efficiency and cost-effectiveness by attaining high cell growth productivity per unit of medium. Microcarriers, or carriers, are compatible with large-scale bioreactor use, and offer a large surface-area-to-volume ratio for the adhesion and proliferation of anchorage-dependent animal cells. An ongoing challenge persists in the efficient retrieval of cells from the carriers, with conflicting reports on the effectiveness of trypsinization and the need for additional optimization measures such as carrier sieving...

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Standards for Levels of Neonatal Care, published in 2023, highlights key components of a Neonatal Patient Safety and Quality Improvement Program (NPSQIP). A comprehensive Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) quality and safety infrastructure (QSI) is based on four foundational domains: quality improvement, quality assurance, safety culture, and clinical guidelines. This paper serves as an operational guide for NICU clinical leaders and quality champions to navigate these domains and develop their local QSI to include the AAP NPSQIP standards...

Our study sought to understand adult decision-makers' views on what was important for actualising children's ideas using co-design, towards creating health-promoting local environments. Ten adult decision-makers, experienced in co-design with children aged 5-13 years in Aotearoa New Zealand, participated in individual interviews. We generated three themes (Empowering children within co-design; Being intentional about children's influence; Curating who is involved) using reflexive thematic analysis. Our themes informed a novel framework of 'impactful co-design' accompanied by a practical checklist for adult decision-makers (practitioners, policy-makers, and researchers)...
