Intimate partner violence (IPV) against women is a worldwide health problem. IPV impact on women's embodiment remains embedded in their narratives. However, the subjective complexity of victims' embodiment and its impact on healthcare still urges to be understood. We aimed to understand (i) how women victims of IPV experience their bodies and (ii) the impact of IPV in their embodiment. From a thematic analysis of six interviews with women victims, four themes arouse: Living body, Reaction to adversities, Impact of violence and Identity...

INTRODUCTION: Intraventricular hemorrhages remain a major problem in neonatology, because their complications affect neonatal morbidity, mortality, and long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes. AIM: The aim of this project was to prevent intraventricular hemorrhage in premature infants during their first days of life in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). METHODS: This pre- and post-implementation clinical audit project used the JBI Evidence Implementation Framework and was conducted in a tertiary-level Spanish NICU with a consecutive sample...

BACKGROUND: Exclusive breastfeeding during postpartum hospitalization is very important for ensuring the success of breastfeeding at home. The aim of the study is to determine if the on-site nurse in rooming in improves exclusive breastfeeding ratio. METHODS: We conducted a prospective observational cohort study to evaluate exclusive breastfeeding during the first three months of life in two Neonatology Units in the South of Italy with different hospital settings: Ente Ecclesiastico Miulli of Acquaviva delle Fonti with on-site nurse h24 (on-site group) and Policlinico of Bari with nurse available on call h24 from Neonatology Unit (on-call group)...

INTRODUCTION: Hand hygiene is key in preventing healthcare-associated infections, but it is challenging in maternity settings due to high patient turnover, frequent emergencies and volume of aseptic procedures. We sought to investigate if adaptions to the WHO hand hygiene reminders could improve their acceptability in maternity settings globally, and use these findings to develop new reminders specific to maternity settings. METHODS: Informed by Sekhon et al 's acceptability framework, we conducted an online survey, semi-structured interviews and a focus group examining the three WHO central hand hygiene reminders ('your five moments of hand hygiene', 'how to hand wash' and 'how to hand rub') and their acceptability in maternity settings...

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is common, multisystem, life-limiting genetic condition, predominantly in the Caucasian population. There have been recent advances in the management of CF, in particular in the last 5 years following approval of cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) protein modulators by the National Health Service (NHS) for use in people with CF (pwCF).Traditionally, almost 40% of female patients with CF (fwCF) and over 95% of male patients with CF (mwCF) have issues with subfertility or infertility...

OBJECTIVE: To examine whether changes in survival without moderate or severe neurodevelopmental impairment (NDI) at 18-26 months' corrected age from 1999 to 2018 differed between male and female infants. DESIGN: This retrospective cohort study used data from the NICHD Neonatal Research Network hospitals. Robust Poisson regression models were used to estimate adjusted relative risks (aRRs) and 95% CIs for survival without moderate or severe NDI between males and females...

To evaluate the relationship between post-earthquake trauma levels and fear of happiness with sexual quality of life in women who had survived the earthquake. The study revealed that as the level of post-earthquake trauma and fear of happiness increased, so too did the quality of sexual life. These findings indicate that traumatic events strengthen the bonds between couples and positively affect the quality of sexual life. Nevertheless, providing support to individuals following the earthquake and informing them about sexual life and sexual health issues can contribute to individual health and harmony within the family, thereby positively impacting public health...

This study reported the diagnosis, treatment and perinatal outcome of a novel coronavirus infection patient at 29+6 weeks pregnancy. The patient case came to the hospital with persistent fever and cough for 6 days. Patient's chest CT diagnosis showed double pneumonia, and viral infection was considered. Blood gas analysis revealed type I respiratory failure, and a throat swab nucleic acid test confirmed the novel coronavirus infection (critical type). After 13 days of isolation and supportive treatment, the patient recovered and was discharged from hospital after two consecutive negative nucleic acid tests...

The agreement intra-class correlation coefficient (ICCa) is a suitable statistical index for inter-rater reliability studies. With balanced Gaussian data, we prove the explicit form of ICCa asymptotic normality (ASN), valid both with analysis of variance (ANOVA), maximum likelihood (ML), or restricted ML (REML) estimates. An asymptotic confidence interval is then derived and its performances are examined by simulation compared to the most commonly used methods, under small, moderate and large sample size designs...

INTRODUCTION: The main risk factors of necrotising enterocolitis (NEC) are prematurity and low birth weight. The aim of our study was to identify risk factors for NEC in patients with duct-dependent congenital heart disease (CHD). STUDY DESIGN: Newborns with duct-dependent CHD and NEC were matched 1:1 to those without NEC. Matched criteria were gestational age, birth weight, antenatal versus postnatal diagnosis and type of CHD. RESULTS: Twenty-three infants were included in each group...

In this cross-sectional study, the authors investigated the relationships between chronic pain intensity and quality of life, pain coping strategies, and pain beliefs levels in 405 adult women. The participants with a mean age of 48.8 ± 5.08 generally defined chronic pain intensity as moderate pain (x̅=7.17, sd = 2.01). There was a weak positive relationship between chronic pain intensity and the worrying dimension, one of the passive coping strategies, and a weak negative relationship with the retreating dimension...

BACKGROUNDS: Ample evidence supports potential influence of age at menarche (AM) on adult height (AH), but multiple confounders may affect causal estimates. To address this issue, the Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was used to explore the causal impacts of AM on AH. METHODS: Using data (n = 57,349) from the publicly accessible Taiwan Biobank and randomly splitting them into 2 equal-size subsets, we identified single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) significantly associated with AM in the exploration subset and used these SNPs as instrumental variables to estimate the effects of instruments on AH in the validation subset based on two stage least squares (2SLS) regression...

To examine the relationship between hCAM and perinatal variables including early postnatal immature-to-total neutrophil ratio (ITR). STUDY DESIGN: A single-center study was undertaken at Ohta Nishinouchi Hospital between April 1, 2016 and June 30, 2023. INTRODUCTION: Neonatal linear immunoglobulin A (IgA) bullous dermatosis (NLABD) is a rare, life-threatening, mucocutaneous bullous disorder. The pathogenesis and optimal treatment remain poorly defined and raise critical clinical challenges. CASE PRESENTATION: We present a case of a full-term female infant with severe cutaneous and respiratory symptoms due to NLABD. Diagnosis was confirmed by immunofluorescence on the infant's skin biopsy, while IgAs directed against the basement membrane of the skin and mucosa were identified in the mother's milk...

Premedication with sedative drugs is one of the most preferred methods to reduce anxiety. Due to concerns about maternal and fetal side effects, their use in obstetric anesthesia is not preferred. The primary aim of the authors of this study is to investigate the effect of music on perioperative anxiety in pregnant. The patients were randomized into three groups; Group M was listened to music during the surgery, Group S isolated from ambient noise and Group C was the control group. Anxiety status was measured at the preoperative anesthesia examination, on the morning of surgery, and at the first hour postoperatively...
