BACKGROUND: Infective endocarditis (IE), a severe and economically impactful condition, lacks substantial epidemiological data in the North Africa and Middle East (NAME) region. This study focused on analyzing the trends and burden of IE in NAME from 1990 to 2019, taking into account factors like age, gender, and socio-demographic index (SDI). METHODS: The Global Burden of Disease data from 1990 to 2019 was retrieved from the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) website...

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: One of the greatest public health problems of the 21st century is undernutrition in children under the age of 5 years (CAUFY). Globally, over 232 million CUAFY are undernourished and approximately 45% of mortality in this population are undernutrition-induced. This paper reviewed and critically explained the factors perpetuating undernutrition in CUAFY in the global space. It further explained the multi-level determinants that influence health inequalities and consequently exacerbate undernutrition amongst CUAFY globally...

Recent advancements in reproductive medicine have guided novel strategies for addressing male infertility, particularly in cases of non-obstructive azoospermia (NOA). Two prominent invasive interventions, namely testicular sperm extraction (TESE) and microdissection TESE (micro-TESE), have emerged as key techniques to retrieve gametes for assisted reproduction technologies (ART). Both heterogeneity and complexity of NOA pose a multifaceted challenge to clinicians, as the invasiveness of these procedures and their unpredictable success underscore the need for more precise guidance...

BACKGROUND: The cell endocrine pathway is a critical physiological process composed of the endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi apparatus and associated vesicles. Loss of enzymes or proteins can cause dysfunction of endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi apparatus and affect secretion pathways leading to a variety of human diseases, including cancer. METHODS: The single-cell RNA sequencing and single nucleotide variant principal component analysis data of ovarian cancer were retrieved from The Cancer Genome Atlas and Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) datasets...

The development of robust artificial intelligence models for echocardiography has been limited by the availability of annotated clinical data. Here, to address this challenge and improve the performance of cardiac imaging models, we developed EchoCLIP, a vision-language foundation model for echocardiography, that learns the relationship between cardiac ultrasound images and the interpretations of expert cardiologists across a wide range of patients and indications for imaging. After training on 1,032,975 cardiac ultrasound videos and corresponding expert text, EchoCLIP performs well on a diverse range of benchmarks for cardiac image interpretation, despite not having been explicitly trained for individual interpretation tasks...

METHODS: This study examined the economic impact over five years for a patient cohort based on the number of patients treated with MT+ IV-tPA in Australia 2021, versus treatment with IV-tPA alone. BACKGROUND: Semecarpus anacardium (SCA) fruits are found in India's sub-Himalayan, tropical, and central regions and have been utilized for centuries in traditional Indian medicine to treat various ailments. In recent times, a growing body of research has emerged indicating that the extracts and active components found in SCA fruits possess qualities that can potentially inhibit the development of cancer and inflammatory markers. PURPOSE: This study aims to provide a comprehensive review of the existing literature on the pharmacological mechanisms underlying the effects of extracts and phytochemicals of SCA fruits in cellular, animal models, and clinical trials of cancer and inflammatory diseases...

In particular, forelimb amputation may affect gait more than hindlimb amputation. In this study, limb-sparing surgery using liquid nitrogen was applied to primary osteosarcomas arising in the proximal scapula of a Welsh Corgi, the proximal humerus of a Golden Retriever, and the distal radius of a Great Pyrenees, according to the protocol of Tsuchiya et al...
