INTRODUCTION: Currently, in intensive care units (ICUs), the in-hospital transport (HIT) of patients is carried out without a unified criterion of personnel necessary for it. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the concordance of the Patient Assessment System for Transport-ICU (PAST-ICU) with the medical criteria (CM) to determine the Human Resources (HR) and identify Adverse Effects (AE). METHODS: Descriptive, cross-sectional and prospective study of the IHT of patients admitted to an area of adult medical-surgical critical patients...

This study aimed to separately compare and rank the effect of various living-low and training-high (LLTH) modes on aerobic and anaerobic performances in athletes, focusing on training intensity, modality, and volume, through network meta-analysis. We systematically searched PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, EBSCO, and Cochrane from their inception date to June 30, 2023. Based on the hypoxic training modality and the intensity and duration of work intervals, LLTH was divided into intermittent hypoxic exposure, continuous hypoxic training, repeated sprint training in hypoxia (RSH; work interval: 5-10 s and rest interval: approximately 30 s), interval sprint training in hypoxia (ISH; work interval: 15-30 s), short-duration high-intensity interval training (s-IHT; short work interval: 1-2 min), long-duration high-intensity interval training (l-IHT; long work interval: > 5 min), and continuous and interval training under hypoxia...

BACKGROUND: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) has emerged as a life-sustaining measure for individuals with end-stage cardiopulmonary derangements. An estimated one-third of patients must be transferred to a specialized center to receive this intervention. Therefore, the present study sought to characterize the impact of interhospital transfer (IHT) status on outcomes following ECMO. METHODS: The 2016-2020 National Inpatient Sample was queried to identify all adult (≥18 years) hospitalizations for ECMO...

BACKGROUND: There is a dearth of research on the cost-effectiveness of intensive home treatment (IHT), an alternative to psychiatric hospitalisation for patients experiencing psychiatric crises. We therefore present a health economic evaluation alongside a pre-randomised controlled trial of IHT compared to care as usual (CAU). METHOD: Patients were pre-randomised to IHT or CAU using a double-consent open-label Zelen design. For the cost-utility analysis, the EuroQol 5-dimensional instrument was used...

BACKGROUND: Interhospital transfer (IHT) is necessary for providing ultimate care in the current emergency care system, particularly for patients with severe trauma. However, studies on IHT during the pandemic were limited. Furthermore, evidence on the effects of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on IHT among patients with major trauma was lacking. METHOD: This retrospective cohort study was conducted in an urban trauma center (TC) of a tertiary academic affiliated hospital in Daegu, Korea...

Intrahospital transfer (IHT), a routine in the management of neurocritical patients requiring imaging or interventions, might affect brain metabolism. Studies about IHT effects using microdialysis (MD) have produced conflicting results. In these studies, only the most damaged hemisphere was monitored, and those may not reflect the impact of IHT on overall brain metabolism, nor do they address differences between the hemispheres. Herein we aimed to quantify the effect of IHT on brain metabolism by monitoring both hemispheres with bilateral MD...

Sleep apnea is regarded as an important risk factor in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer disease (AD). Chronic intermittent hypoxia treatment (IHT) given during the sleep period of the circadian cycle in experimental animals is a well-established sleep apnea model. Here we report that transient IHT for 4 days on AD model mice causes Aβ overproduction 2 months after IHT presumably via upregulation of synaptic BACE1, side-by-side with tau hyperphosphorylation. These results suggest that even transient IHT may be sufficient to cause long-lasting changes in the molecules measured as AD biomarkers in the brain...

Intensive home treatment (IHT) has shown to be a feasible alternative to hospitalization for the management of acute psychiatric episodes, but there are no real-world studies assessing if patients with a first IHT use it again for the management of their recurrences. The objectives of this retrospective cohort study were to map the use ofacute treatment resources after the implementation of IHT in our territory through the establishment of trajectories of management, and to disentangle if there are profiles of patients who fit better each trajectory...

The presence of racial and ethnic disparities in interhospital transfer (IHT) within integrated healthcare systems has not been fully explored. We matched Black and Latinx patients admitted to community hospitals in our integrated healthcare system between June 2015 and December 2019 to White patients by origin hospital, age, time of year, and disease severity. We performed conditional logistic regression models to determine if race or ethnicity was associated with IHT in one of the tertiary academic medical centers in the system, adjusting for covariates...

BACKGROUND: Intrahospital transport (IHT) is often performed by nurse anaesthetists and specialist intensive care nurses. Studies have shown that IHT increases the risk of mortality and morbidity, with up to 71% negative incidents. Using checklists when preparing for an IHT is important. Several international guidelines exist to ensure IHT safety and reduce the risk of complications. However, existing guidelines are often problematic in clinical practice. AIM: This study aimed to describe the experiences of nurse anaesthetists and specialized intensive care nurses during the IHT of adult patients with critical illnesses...

Inulin (INU) is a versatile natural polysaccharide primarily derived from chicory roots. INU possesses the unique quality of evading digestion or fermentation in the early stages of the human digestive tract, instead reaching the lower colon directly. Exploiting on this distinctive attribute, INU finds application in the creation of targeted carrier systems for delivering drugs tailored to colon-related diseases. This study presents a novel method for synthesizing highly stable and non-aggregatory inulin nanoparticles (INU NPs) by ionotropic gelation method, using calcium chloride as crosslinker and natural honey as a stabilizing agent...
