The therapeutic potential of chemically synthesized AuNPs has been demonstrated in various types of cancer. However, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) synthesized using typical chemical methods have concerns regarding their environmental safety and adverse impact on human well-being. To overcome this issue, we used an environmentally friendly approach in which gold nanoparticles were synthesized using Moringa oleifera leaf extract (MLE). The present research was mainly focused on the biosynthesis and characterization of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) using Moringa oleifera leaf extract (MLE-AuNPs) and explore its anticancer potential against Dalton's Lymphoma (DL) cells...

The term older-age bipolar disorder (OABD) refers to patients with bipolar disorder who are ages 50 and older. Research findings suggest important differences, including the attenuation of manic symptoms with age and the occurrence of multiple somatic comorbid conditions. Although the pharmacological treatment of OABD is fairly similar, adverse effects, somatic comorbidity, and drug-drug interactions are more common. Lithium is effective in treating OABD and may have the potential to be neuroprotective. Anticonvulsants and second-generation antipsychotics have a growing evidence supporting their use in treating OABD...

Over the past three decades, health equity has become a guiding framework for documenting, explaining, and informing the promotion of population health. With these developments, scholars have widened public health's aperture, bringing systems of oppression sharply into focus. Additionally, some researchers in disability and health have advocated for utilizing socially grounded frameworks to investigate the health of disabled people. Yet, naming ableism, much less operationalizing it for the empirical study of health, remains scant...

The concept of childhood has evolved over the years, inspired by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989, shifting from developmental models to a conception of childhood that recognizes children as moral agents. This evolution highlights the importance of respecting children's agency and their right to be heard in matters that are related to them. In conventional health research, however, children's voices are often inadequately accessed. In this commentary, we discuss the imperative to recognize children's agency in dental research and a shift from research on children to research with and by children...

BACKGROUND: Incorporating chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell therapy into relapsed or refractory large B-cell lymphoma (rr LBCL) treatment algorithms has yielded remarkable response rates and durable remissions, yet a substantial portion of patients experience progression or relapse. Variations in outcomes across treatment centers may be attributed to different bridging strategies and remission statuses preceding CAR-T cell therapy. PATIENTS: Twenty-nine consecutive adult patients receiving tisagenlecleucel (tisa-cel) for rr LBCL from December 2019 to February 2023 at Jena University Hospital were analyzed...

Visual impairments and blindness are major public health concerns globally. Effective eye disease screening aided by artificial intelligence (AI) is a promising countermeasure, although it is challenged by practical constraints such as poor image quality in community screening. The recently developed ophthalmic foundation model RETFound has shown higher accuracy in retinal image recognition tasks. This study developed an RETFound-enhanced deep learning (DL) model for multiple-eye disease screening using real-world images from community screenings...

BACKGROUND: Interruption of the fistoulus point is the goal of the treatment of spinal dural arteriovenous fistula (dAVFs). Microsurgery still represents a highly efficient treatment in terms of complete occlusion with the lowest risk of recurrence rate. It is reported that the hardest step consists in finding the fistulous site itself, potentially extending surgical access and time, and increasing potential post-operative surgical-related complications. The accurate preoperative detection of the shunt and spinal level together is crucial for guiding optimal, fast and safe microsurgical treatment...

Our study sought to understand adult decision-makers' views on what was important for actualising children's ideas using co-design, towards creating health-promoting local environments. Ten adult decision-makers, experienced in co-design with children aged 5-13 years in Aotearoa New Zealand, participated in individual interviews. We generated three themes (Empowering children within co-design; Being intentional about children's influence; Curating who is involved) using reflexive thematic analysis. Our themes informed a novel framework of 'impactful co-design' accompanied by a practical checklist for adult decision-makers (practitioners, policy-makers, and researchers)...

The adsorption process efficiently removes per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from water, but managing exhausted adsorbents presents notable environmental and economic challenges. Conventional disposal methods, such as incineration, may reintroduce PFAS into the environment. Therefore, advanced regeneration techniques are imperative to prevent leaching during disposal and enhance sustainability and cost-effectiveness. This review critically evaluates thermal and chemical regeneration approaches for PFAS-laden adsorbents, elucidating their operational mechanisms, the influence of water quality parameters, and their inherent advantages and limitations...

This article studies an emerging practical problem called heterogeneous prototype learning (HPL). Unlike the conventional heterogeneous face synthesis (HFS) problem that focuses on precisely translating a face image from a source domain to another target one without removing facial variations, HPL aims at learning the variation-free prototype of an image in the target domain while preserving the identity characteristics. HPL is a compounded problem involving two cross-coupled subproblems, that is, domain transfer and prototype learning (PL), thus making most of the existing HFS methods that simply transfer the domain style of images unsuitable for HPL...
