PURPOSE: This observational retrospective clinical study aimed to investigate the survival and success rates of partial indirect lithium disilicate restorations with margins extending above or beyond the cementoenamel junction (CEJ). METHODS: The study included patients who underwent partial indirect lithium disilicate restorations with immediate dentin sealing (IDS) between January 2008 and October 2018. All the restorations were placed in a single general dental practice following a standardized protocol...

The central role of the brain in governing systemic functions within human physiology underscores its paramount significance as the focal point of physiological regulation. The brain, a highly sophisticated organ, orchestrates a diverse array of physiological processes encompassing motor control, sensory perception, cognition, emotion, and the regulation of vital functions, such as heartbeat, respiration, and hormonal equilibrium. A notable attribute of neurological diseases manifests as the depletion of neurons and the occurrence of tissue necrosis subsequent to injury...

The objective of this case report was to provide a plan for aesthetic rehabilitation of a patient utilizing layered zirconia restorations to produce a homogeneous, pleasing smile. In this case, a female patient, aged 38 years, presented in dental clinic with a spaced dentition and faulty crowns that were causing functional and aesthetic concerns. She was a banker by profession and socially active. The treatment plan involved layered zirconia indirect restorations to enhance her natural teeth appearance. The aim of this case report was to propose an effective strategy for addressing her concerns, with the potential to achieve a desired aesthetic outcome...

Arctigenin (ATG), a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, is a natural lignan compound extracted from the seeds of burdock (Arctium lappa L, Asteraceae). As a natural product with multiple biological activities, the effect and mechanism of ATG against liver fibrosis are not fully elucidated yet. In current work, we first discovered that ATG could improve CCl4 -induced liver injury reflected by lower plasma ALT and AST levels, liver coefficient and pathological scoring of ballooning. Furthermore, it also could reduce the positive areas of Masson, Sirius red and α-SMA staining, inhibit the expression of fibrosis-related genes (Col1a1, Col3a1, Acta2), and decrease the content of hydroxyproline, indicated ATG treatment had benefits in alleviating CCl4 -induced liver fibrosis...

Organ transplantation is associated with various forms of programmed cell death which can accelerate transplant injury and rejection. Targeting cell death in donor organs may represent a novel strategy for preventing allograft injury. We have previously demonstrated that necroptosis plays a key role in promoting transplant injury. Recently, we have found that mitochondria function is linked to necroptosis. However, it remains unknown how necroptosis signaling pathways regulate mitochondrial function during necroptosis...

The article introduces neurotrophic keratopathy (NK), a condition resulting from corneal denervation due to various causes of trigeminal nerve dysfunctions. Surgical techniques for corneal neurotization (CN) have evolved, aiming to restore corneal sensitivity. Initially proposed in 1972, modern approaches offer less invasive options. CN can be performed through a direct approach (DCN) directly suturing a sensitive nerve to the affected cornea or indirectly (ICN) through a nerve auto/allograft. Surgical success relies on meticulous donor nerve selection and preparation, often involving multidisciplinary teams...

The role of the gut microbiome (GM) and oral microbiome (OM) in cardiovascular disease (CVD) has been increasingly being understood in recent years. It is well known that GM is a risk factor for various CVD phenotypes, including hypertension, dyslipidemia, heart failure and atrial fibrillation. However, its role in valvular heart disease (VHD) is less well understood. Research shows that, direct, microbe-mediated and indirect, metabolite-mediated damage as a result of gut dysbiosis and environmental factors results in a subclinical, chronic, systemic inflammatory state, which promotes inflammatory cell infiltration in heart valves and subsequently, via pro-inflammatory molecules, initiates a cascade of reaction, resulting in valve calcification, fibrosis and dysfunction...

In recent years, indirect digital radiography detectors have been actively studied to improve radiographic image performance with low radiation exposure. This study aimed to achieve low-dose radiation imaging with a thick scintillation detector while simultaneously obtaining the resolution of a thin scintillation detector. The proposed method was used to predict the optimal point spread function (PSF) between thin and thick scintillation detectors by considering image quality assessment (IQA). The process of identifying the optimal PSF was performed on each sub-band in the wavelet domain to improve restoration accuracy...

Rifampicin (RFP) has demonstrated potent antibacterial effects in the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis. However, the serious adverse effects on the liver intensively limit the clinical usage of the drug. Deacetylation greatly reduces the toxicity of RFP but also retains its curative activity. Here, we found that krüppel-like factor 15 (KLF15) repressed the expression of the major RFP detoxification enzyme Cyp3a11 in mice via both direct and indirect mechanisms. Knockout of hepatocyte KLF15 induced the expression of Cyp3a11 and robustly attenuated the hepatotoxicity of RFP in mice...

Plant and microbial diversity plays vital roles in soil organic carbon (SOC) accumulation during ecosystem restoration. However, how soil microbial diversity mediates the positive effects of plant diversity on carbon accumulation during vegetation restoration remains unclear. We conducted a large-scale meta-analysis with 353 paired observations from 65 studies to examine how plant and microbial diversity changed over 0-160 years of natural restoration and its connection to SOC accrual in the topsoil (0-10 cm)...

The diffusion of trace elements in mining wastelands has attracted widespread attention in recent years. Vegetation restoration is an effective measure for controlling the surface migration of trace elements. However, there is no field evidence of the effective riparian zone width in mining wastelands. Three widths (5 m, 7.5 m, and 10 m) of Rhododendron simsii / Lolium perenne L. riparian zones were constructed in lead-zinc mining wastelands to investigate the loss of soil, cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), arsenic (As), lead (Pb), and zinc (Zn)...

The density and composition of lymphocytes infiltrating colon tumors serve as predictive factors for the clinical outcome of colon cancer. Our previous studies highlighted the potent anti-cancer properties of the principal compounds found in Garcinia yunnanensis (YTE-17), attributing these effects to the regulation of multiple signaling pathways. However, knowledge regarding the mechanism and effect of YTE-17 in the prevention of colorectal cancer is limited. In this study, we conducted isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantification (iTRAQ) analysis on intestinal epithelial cells (IECs) exposed YTE-17, both in vitro and in vivo , revealing a significant inhibition of the Wnt family member 5a (Wnt5a)/c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) signaling pathway...

With the aging and older adults' mental health problems in China, more attention has been paid to the restorative environment. As an important restorative environment in the city, the mental health restorative effect of park environment has been confirmed. However, further exploration is needed to determine whether winter parks have positive effects, their differences from non-winter parks, and the specific pathways of these effects. Therefore, this study constructed a "full path" for the restorative effects of older adults' mental health in parks under seasonal differences, including four components: perceived environment, affective feedback, behavioral feedback, and restorative effect, forming four pathways...

BACKGROUND: Pre-eruptive intra-coronal radiolucency (PEIR) is a rare dental anomaly often incidentally detected during routine radiographic examinations. This condition manifests as a radiolucent lesion beneath the enamel-dentinal junction of unerupted teeth, particularly in lower molars, posing diagnostic and management challenges due to its asymptomatic nature. The treatment of PEIR depends on the extent of the lesion and the degree of pulp involvement. CASE SERIES: This case series reports on four patients with progressive pre-eruptive intra-coronal radiolucency...
