BACKGROUND: Serious games enhance learner engagement and knowledge, yet few medical education games target older adults' healthcare. Addressing this gap, we developed Geri-POP (Geriatrics Population Health), focusing on the Age-Friendly Health System (AFHS) framework and Geriatric 4Ms. METHODS: Geri-POP, a healthcare game is aimed at educating health profession learners about the AFHS framework. Geri-POP employs plan-do-study-act cycles of rapid improvement to apply AFHS principles and explore evidence-based geriatric practices within the game environment while garnering points for insight, trust and outcomes...

IMPORTANCE: Parents' overdose death can have a profound short- and long-term impact on their children, yet little is known about the number of children who have lost a parent to drug overdose in the US. OBJECTIVE: To estimate the number and rate of children who have lost a parent to drug overdose from 2011 to 2021 overall and by parental age, sex, and race and ethnicity. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This was a cross-sectional study of US community-dwelling persons using data from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health (2010-2014 and 2015-2019) and the National Vital Statistics System (2011-2021)...

BACKGROUND: Post-cardiac arrest (CA) shock is associated with multiple organ failure, including acute kidney injury, and is the leading cause of early death among patient successfully resuscitated from CA. Arginine-vasopressin (AVP) may be an interesting therapeutic alternative or complement to noradrenaline (NAD) to both control shock and preserve regional, especially renal, organ perfusions. METHODS: 18 swine (24-39 kg) were submitted to 14 min of ventricular fibrillation and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation...

Exposure to gender-related minority stressors, the negative experiences and beliefs that stem from anti-trans stigma increases transgender and gender diverse (TGD) people's vulnerability to experiencing poor mental health outcomes. This study examined if the relationships between experiences of minority stress and mental health outcomes were mediated by early maladaptive schemas: mental representations shaping the way people view themselves, others and the world. Drawing from a schema therapy perspective, the study additionally examined if caregivers' failure to meet TGD people's core emotional needs was associated with mental health outcomes and if schemas similarly mediated these relationships...

PROBLEM/CONDITION: A 2019 report quantified the higher percentage of potentially excess (preventable) deaths in U.S. nonmetropolitan areas compared with metropolitan areas during 2010-2017. In that report, CDC compared national, regional, and state estimates of preventable premature deaths from the five leading causes of death in nonmetropolitan and metropolitan counties during 2010-2017. This report provides estimates of preventable premature deaths for additional years (2010-2022). PERIOD COVERED: 2010-2022...

RATIONALE: About 60 to 70% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) survivors who worked before cardiac arrest return to work within one year but the precise conditions for this resumption of professional activity remain little known. The objective of this study was to assess components of return to work among OHCA survivors. PATIENTS AND METHODS: We used the French national multicentric cohort AfterRosc to include OHCA survivors admitted between April 1st 2021 and March 31st , discharged alive from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and who were less than 65 years old...

OBJECTIVE: We applied a user experience (UX) design approach to clinical decision support (CDS) tool development for the specific use case of pediatric asthma. Our objective was to understand physicians' workflows, decision-making processes, barriers (ie, pain points), and facilitators to increase usability of the tool. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We used a mixed-methods approach with semi-structured interviews and surveys. The coded interviews were synthesized into physician-user journey maps (ie, visualization of a process to accomplish goals) and personas (ie, user types)...

BACKGROUND: The influence of socioeconomic deprivation on health inequalities is established, but its effect on critically ill patients remains unclear, due to inconsistent definitions in previous studies. METHODS: Prospective multicenter cohort study conducted from March to June 2018 in eight ICUs in the Greater Paris area. All admitted patients aged ≥ 18 years were enrolled. BACKGROUND: The effect of the vitamin K antagonist (VKA) acenocoumarol on coagulation needs to be reversed when patients undergo an invasive procedure with considerable bleeding risk. A strategy to achieve this is administering oral vitamin K before a procedure while continuing acenocoumarol. OBJECTIVES: To assess the effect on periprocedural International Normalized Ratio (INR)-values and safety using oral vitamin K as anticoagulant reversal method. Cell surface proteins represent ideal therapeutic targets because of their accessibility to antibodies, T cell-directed therapies, and radiotherapies, but there are only 25 therapeutically relevant cell surface targets for which cancer therapies are approved in the United States or European Union. This commentary calls for intensified research into mapping the universe of cell surface proteins - the cell surfaceome - in order to accelerate cancer drug development.

Squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs) are common and aggressive malignancies. Immune check point blockade (ICB) therapy using PD-1/PD-L1 antibodies has been approved in several types of advanced SCCs. However, low response rate and treatment resistance are common. Improving the efficacy of ICB therapy requires better understanding of the mechanism of immune evasion. Here, we identify that the SCC-master transcription factor TP63 suppresses interferon-γ (IFNγ) signaling. TP63 inhibition leads to increased CD8+ T cell infiltration and heighten tumor killing in in vivo syngeneic mouse model and ex vivo co-culture system, respectively...

BACKGROUND: Artificial Intelligence entails the application of computer algorithms to the huge and heterogeneous amount of morphodynamic data produced by Time-Lapse Technology. In this context, Machine Learning (ML) methods were developed in order to assist embryologists with automatized and objective predictive models able to standardize human embryo assessment. In this study, we aimed at developing a novel ML-based strategy to identify relevant patterns associated with the prediction of blastocyst development stage on day 5...

METHOD: PsycINFO, PubMed and CINAHL Complete databases were last searched on 1 June 2023 following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses 2020 statement to identify peer-reviewed journal articles written in English that reported on original quantitative research on schema therapy or schema therapy constructs...

BACKGROUND: Frailty and comorbidities are important outcome determinants in older patients (age ≥65) with burns. A Geriatric Burn Bundle (Geri-B) was implemented in 2019 at a regional burn center to standardize care for older adults. Components included frailty screening and protocolized geriatric co-management, malnutrition screening with nutritional support, and geriatric-centered pain regimens. METHODS: This study aimed to qualitatively evaluate the implementation of Geri-B using the Proctor Framework...

Parenting has been implicated in a range of youth health outcomes. Positive parenting during adolescence, a critical period of developmental change, may equip youth with the necessary tools for their transition into adulthood and, for youth living with HIV, their transition from pediatric HIV care into adult HIV care. Yet, because few studies have carefully assessed the psychometric properties of parenting instruments applied cross-culturally, the validity of parenting research derived in these contexts remains unclear...
