INTRODUCTION: The HIV/AIDS continues being a significant global public health priority in the 21st century with social and economic consequences Mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) occurs when an HIV-infected woman passes the virus to her infant and about 90% of these MTCT infections occurs in Africa where children and infants are still dying of HIV. Early definitive diagnosis using Deoxyribonucleic acid reaction of HIV infection in infants is critical to ensuring that HIV-infected infants receive appropriate and timely care and treatment to reduce HIV related morbidity and mortality...

INTRODUCTION: Control of Campylobacter from farm to fork is challenging due to the frequent emergence of antimicrobial-resistant isolates. Furthermore, poultry production systems are known reservoirs of Campylobacter . The twin-arginine translocation (Tat) pathway is a crucial bacterial secretion system that allows Campylobacter to colonize the host intestinal tract by using formate as the main source of energy. However, Tat pathway is also a major contributing factor for resistance to copper sulfate (CuSO4 )...

BACKGROUND: Microparticles (MPs) have been implicated in thrombosis and endothelial dysfunction. Their involvement in early coagulopathy and in worsening of outcomes in isolated severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI) patients remains ill defined. OBJECTIVE: We sought to quantify the circulatory MP subtypes derived from platelets (PMPs; CD42), endothelial cells (EMPs; CD62E), and those bearing tissue factor (TFMP; CD142) and analyze their correlation with early coagulopathy, thrombin generation, and in-hospital mortality...

Targeted radionuclide therapy (TRT) has significantly evolved from its beginnings with iodine-131 to employing carrier molecules with beta emitting isotopes like lutetium-177. With the success of Lu-177-DOTATATE for neuroendocrine tumors and Lu-177-PSMA-617 for prostate cancer, several other beta emitting radioisotopes, such as Cu-67 and Tb-161, are being explored for TRT. The field has also expanded into targeted alpha therapy (TAT) with agents like radium-223 for bone metastases in prostate cancer, and several other alpha emitter radioisotopes with carrier molecules, such as Ac-225, and Pb-212 under clinical trials...

Precision-cut lung slices (PCLS), ex vivo 3D lung tissue models, have been widely used for various applications in lung research. PCLS serve as an excellent intermediary between in vitro and in vivo models because they retain all resident cell types within their natural niche while preserving the extracellular matrix environment. This protocol describes the TReATS (TAT-Cre recombinase-mediated floxed allele modification in tissue slices) method that enables rapid and efficient gene modification in PCLS derived from adult floxed animals...

Using a sample of (10087±44)×10^{6}  J/ψ events, which is about 45 times larger than that was previously analyzed, a further investigation on the J/ψ→γ3(π^{+}π^{-}) decay is performed. A significant distortion at 1.84  GeV/c^{2} in the line shape of the 3(π^{+}π^{-}) invariant mass spectrum is observed for the first time, which could be resolved by two overlapping resonant structures, X(1840) and X(1880). The new state X(1880) is observed with a statistical significance larger than 10σ...

BACKGROUND: Recent studies have shown that the tumor microenvironment significantly influences the behavior of solid tumors. In this context, Accumulated data suggests that pathological evaluation of tumor budding (TB), desmoplastic reaction (DR), and tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) may be crucial in determining tumor behavior in the gastrointestinal tract. Regarding gastric adenocarcinoma (GAC), although some results suggest that TB and TILs may be effective in determining the course of the disease, the data do not agree...

BACKGROUND: Ischemic stroke remains the predominant contributor to mortality and disability globally. Microglia undergo rapid activation and initiate inflammatory cascade reactions by phenotypic polarization, participating in the regulation of inflammatory injury and tissue repair post-ischemic stroke. Regulating microglia-mediated neuroinflammation is a promising therapeutic strategy for ischemic stroke. Previously, we designed and synthesized a novel p55PIK inhibitor, TAT-N15 polypeptide, which presents inhibitive activity on NF-κB signaling-mediated inflammation in acute conjunctivitis and allergic rhinitis...

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a global medical challenge. Studies have shown that neurotoxicity caused by pathological aggregation of β-amyloid (Aβ) is an important factor leading to AD. Therefore, inhibiting the pathological aggregation of Aβ is the key to treating AD. The recombinant human HspB5-ACD structural domain protein (AHspB5) prepared by our group in the previous period has been shown to have anti-amyloid aggregation effects, but its inability to penetrate biological membranes has limited its development...

Preclinical studies are essential for effectively evaluating TAT radiopharmaceuticals. Given the current suboptimal supply chain of these radionuclides, animal studies must be refined to produce the most translatable TAT agents with the greatest clinical potential. Vector design is pivotal, emphasizing harmonious physical and biological characteristics among the vector, target, and radionuclide. The scarcity of alpha-emitting radionuclides remains a significant consideration. Actinium-225 and lead-212 appear as the most readily available radionuclides at this stage...

Background and Objectives : In this present study, we investigated the impact of mechanosensitive microRNAs (mechano-miRs) on the collateral development in 126 chronic total occlusion (CTO) patients, selected from 810 undergoing angiography. Materials and Methods : We quantified the collateral blood supply using the collateral flow index (CFI) and assessed the transcoronary mechano-miR gradients. Results: The patients with favorable collaterals had higher CFI values (0.45 ± 0.02) than those with poor collaterals (0...

Background/Objectives : The coagulation cascade due to tissue damage is considered to be one of the causes of poor prognostic outcomes in patients with acute exacerbations of interstitial lung disease (AE-ILD). This study aimed to confirm coagulopathy in AE-ILD by evaluating the differences in the clinical characteristics of coagulation/fibrinolysis markers between stable ILD and AE-ILD. Methods : Overall, 81 patients were enrolled in this retrospective study and categorized into the following two groups: a chronic ILD group comprising 63 outpatients and an acute ILD group comprising 18 inpatients diagnosed with AE-ILD...

During the last two decades, several cases of venous thrombosis (VTE) after a prolonged period at a computer have been described, denominated as "eThrombosis". Video gaming on a computer has become very popular and can be a social activity where several players gather to play against each other or in a virtual environment for several days ("LAN (i.e., L ocal A rea N etwork) parties") where the participants are sedentary and consuming calorie-rich food items. The aim of this study was to investigate potential coagulation activation during a 42 h LAN party...

Brownian motion allows microscopically dispersed nanoparticles to be stable in ferrofluids, as well as causes magnetization relaxation and prohibits permanent magnetism. Here we decoupled the particle Brownian motion from colloidal stability to achieve a permanent fluidic magnet with high magnetization, flowability and reconfigurability. The key to create such permanent fluidic magnets is to maintain a stable magnetic colloidal fluid by using non-Brownian magnetic particles to self-assemble a three-dimensional oriented and ramified magnetic network structure in the carrier fluid...

Antiretroviral therapy-naive people living with HIV possess less fat than people without HIV. Previously, we found that HIV-1 transactivator of transcription (TAT) decreases fat in ob/ob mice. The TAT38 (a.a. 20-57) is important in the inhibition of adipogenesis and contains three functional domains: Cys-ZF domain (a.a. 20-35 TACTNCYCAKCCFQVC), core-domain (a.a. 36-46, FITKALGISYG), and protein transduction domain (PTD)(a.a. 47-57, RAKRRQRRR). Interestingly, the TAT38 region interacts with the Cyclin T1 of the P-TEFb complex, of which expression increases during adipogenesis...

This study aimed to assess the clinical utility of blood lactate-to-bicarbonate (L/B) ratio, as a prognostic factor for 28-day in-hospital mortality in children with dengue shock syndrome (DSS), admitted to the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). This single-center retrospective study was conducted at a tertiary children hospital in southern Vietnam from 2013 to mid-2022. Prognostic models for DSS mortality were developed, using a predefined set of covariates in the first 24 hours of PICU admission. Area under the curves (AUCs), multivariable logistic and Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (LASSO) regressions, bootstrapping and calibration slope were performed...
