OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effectiveness of surgical strategies for Shang Ring circumcision in the treatment of short frenulum praeputii in patients with redundant prepuce or phimosis. METHODS: Totally, 130 cases of short frenulum praeputii with redundant prepuce or phimosis were randomly assigned to an experimental group and a control group of equal number to receive Shang Ring circumcision, the former by transverse incision in the distal penis foreskin and pull-up of the interior board, and the latter by conventional transverse incision and longitudinal suture of the frenulum praeputii...

OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical effects of two different circumcision procedures with the Shang Ring and compare their advantages and disadvantages. METHODS: A total of 527 adult males with phimosis or redundant prepuce underwent Shang Ring circumcision by conventional outward replacement (n = 254) and inward placement (n = 273), respectively. We observed the in-ring nocturnal pain, complications, ring-removal pain, degree of edema, recovery time, and patients' satisfaction after surgery, and compared them between the two groups...

BACKGROUND: We evaluated the safety and efficacy of a novel disposable male circumcision (MC) device developed by Jiangxi-Yuansheng-Langhe Medical Instrument Co., Ltd. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Adult male patients (n=120; mean age, 26.6 years) with redundant foreskin and/or phimosis were included in a randomized, multicenter pilot clinical trial from October 2011 to February 2012. Patients were divided into 2 groups and subjected to MC with a novel disposable device (Device Group) (n=60) or to conventional dissection technique (CDT) (Control Group) (n=60)...

OBJECTIVE: To present a straightforward, reproducible technique with the basic principle of preserving all available outer penile shaft skin and using this to cover the dorsal side of the penis. The DOuble LOngitudinal Megapreputium Incision TEchnique is presented in a step-by-step fashion. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Six consecutive patients with a mean age of 13.3 months (range, 7-25) underwent this reconstruction between 2006 and 2011. The technique starts with 2 longitudinal incisions, the first on the ventral side, and the second on the dorsal side of the penis...

OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical outcome and surgical complications in circumcision using the Shang Ring between children and adults. METHODS: Circumcision using the Shang Ring was performed on 702 adults and 216 children. Comparative analysis on indices including operative time, healing time, postoperative edema, postoperative bleeding, postoperative pain, and postoperative infection was conducted. RESULTS: When the ring was removed after surgery, the pain was tolerable in the adult group, but more substantial in the child group...

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the incidence of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection in women and its correlation with redundant prepuce or phimosis in the patients' sexual partners. METHODS: We conducted a questionnaire investigation among the women outpatients at the cervical disease clinic of Nanjing Maternity and Child Health Hospital from May to December 2011. We obtained information on their sexual life and determined whether their sexual partners had redundant prepuce or phimosis according to the schematic illustrations we offered...

Premature ejaculation (PE) is one of the most prevalent male sexual dysfunctions. Selective resection of the dorsal nerve (SRDN) of penis has recently been used for the treatment of PE and has shown some efficacy. To further clarify the efficacy and safety of SRDN on PE, we performed a preliminary, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical observational study. Persons with the complaints of rapid ejaculation, asking for circumcision because of redundant foreskin, intravaginal ejaculation latency time (IELT) within 2 min, not responding to antidepressant medication or disliking oral medication were randomly enrolled in two groups...

BACKGROUND: Male circumcision (MC) has been shown to reduce the risk of female to male transmission of HIV. The goal of this survey was to explore the acceptability of MC among the Chinese and to identify factors associated with circumcision preference. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted between September 2009 and December 2010. We interviewed 2,219 male community participants, from three high HIV prevalence provinces in western China. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data on MC knowledge, willingness to accept MC, reasons to accept or refuse MC, and sexual behaviors and health...

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the acceptability of male circumcision among male miners in Baise, Guangxi, China. METHODS: A questionnaire-based survey on the willingness to be circumcised (WTC) and its influential factors were conducted among Guangxi male miners recruited by random cluster sampling. RESULTS: Of 569 subjects who were surveyed, 143 (25.13%) expressed their willingness to be circumcised. Univariate analysis showed that marital status, education level, and the awareness of the hazards of phimosis and redundant prepuce and reasons for circumcision were significantly different between WTC group and the non-WTC group (all P<0...

MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 48 men who underwent circumcision between August 2005 and December 2008 were referred to our practices with dissatisfied results. Mean age was 27.4 years (15-51). The reasons for presentation were hypertrophic scar (n = 21, 44%), scar wrinkling (n = 13, 27%), incomplete circumcision (redundant foreskin) (n = 11, 23%) and paraphimosis (n = 3, 6%)...

INTRODUCTION: Ibadan, Nigeria, has a very high rate of complications of male circumcision. In a previous survey, redundant or excessive loss of foreskin, skin bridges and injury to the glans penis were the major types of complications identified. Epidermal inclusion cyst complicating neonatal male circumcision appears to be extremely rare, and an extensive search of all databases revealed no reports in the recent literature. CASE PRESENTATION: In 1992, a 10-year-old boy was seen at the urology outpatients clinic presenting with a globular swelling in the penile skin located at the ventral surface proximal to the coronal sulcus...

The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that particular clinical features of foreskin condylomata acuminata in Chinese male patients are associated with diabetes. A prospective study enrolled 126 men presenting with foreskin condylomata acuminata from 2001 to 2006. Mean age was 46 years (age range 25-74 years) and mean duration of disease was 4.8 months (range 1-18 months). Patients were divided into two groups according to clinical features. In group 1, 42 men had distinctive signs such as redundant prepuce, crown warts circling the entire preputial ring, maceration, fissures, phimosis and balanitis, and 37 of 42 (88%) patients were found to have concurrent type 2 diabetes, furthermore 32 of these 37 patients had an insidious onset and were previously undiagnosed...

NFBD1/MDC1, 53BP1 and BRCA1 are DNA damage checkpoint proteins with twin BRCT domains. In order to determine if they have redundant roles in responses to ionizing radiation, we used siRNA and shRNA to deplete NFBD1, 53BP1 and BRCA1 in single, double and triple combinations. These analyses were performed in early passage human foreskin fibroblasts so that checkpoint responses could be assessed in a normal genetic background. We report that NFBD1, 53BP1 and BRCA1 have both unique and redundant functions in radiation-induced phosphorylation and localization events in the ATM-Chk2 pathway...
