OBJECTIVE: To compare the differences and outcomes of surgical procedures, clinical effect, complications and patients' satisfaction between disposable oval-shaped circumcision device (Modified Chinese ShangRing series, Kiddie love® ) and conventional circumcision in the treatment of children with phimosis or redundant prepuce. METHODS: The clinical data were retrospectively analyzed in 114 children with phimosis or redundant foreskin undergone circumcision using a disposable oval-shaped circumcision device, a modified Chinese ShangRing series, Kiddie Love® (Kiddie Love group) in our hospital between January 2018 and February 2020, and another 114 children with similar conditions circumcised by conventional surgical procedure before January 2018 (conventional group)...

Toxoplasma gondii is a common zoonotic protozoan pathogen adapted to intracellular parasitism in many host cells of diverse organisms. Our previous work has identified 18 cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase (PDE) proteins encoded by the parasite genome, of which 11 are expressed during the lytic cycle of its acutely-infectious tachyzoite stage in human cells. Here, we show that ten of these enzymes are promiscuous dual-specific phosphodiesterases, hydrolyzing cAMP and cGMP. Tg PDE1 and Tg PDE9, with a Km of 18 μM and 31 μM, respectively, are primed to hydrolyze cGMP, whereas Tg PDE2 is highly specific to cAMP (Km , 14 μM)...

Background and objective Hair-thread tourniquet syndrome (HTTS) is a rare and potentially dangerous condition that occurs when a hair strand or fabric thread is wrapped around the penis, clitoris, toes, fingers, or other appendages, leading to focal edema, ischemia, and necrosis. This study aimed to examine the cases of six female patients with isolated clitoral hood HTTS. Methods This was a retrospective study involving six female patients (age range: two to six years) with isolated clitoral hood tourniquet who presented to the outpatient department (OPD) and emergency room (ER) of the pediatric and adolescent gynecology service at King Abdulaziz University Hospital, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia between January 2010 and December 2021...

Objective: The objective is to explore the treatment effect of mometasone furoate cream on lichen sclerosus et atrophicus (LSeA) of external genitalia in boys and its correlation with Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and myeloid differentiation factor 88 (MyD88). Methods: A total of 100 boys treated in our hospital from January 2021 to January 2023 due to clinical manifestations in the external genitalia were selected as the study objects. All boys received redundant circumcision treatment, their protein expression of TLR4 and MyD88 in foreskin tissues was measured by BCA protein assay and western blot, and mometasone furoate cream was applied to those who were pathologically diagnosed with LSeA, so as to compare the levels of serum inflammatory factors and urodynamic indicators in the child patients before and after treatment...

AIM: To evaluate the effectiveness of a modified double-layer pressure dressing to avoid severe bleeding after circumcision with the DCSD, in our department in a prospective randomized controlled study, and discuss the mechanism of bleeding with DCSD. METHODS: Patients with redundant foreskin or phimosis were included between September 2018 and November 2019 and divided into 2 groups: In group A, the conventional pressure dressing was performed; in group B, an modified double-layer pressure dressing was performed...

Background: Congenital megaprepuce (CMP) is a malformation consisting of redundant inner foreskin, normal penile shaft, and severe phimosis. The excess inner prepuce pushes the penile shaft deeper causing the appearance of a buried penis. We describe a novel surgical technique using dartos fascial flaps to reconstruct the prepuce giving excellent cosmetic and functional results. Patients and Methods: Penile reconstruction was performed by a single surgeon in 07 cases of CMP between January 2018 and December 2019...

Cyclic nucleotide signaling is pivotal to the asexual reproduction of Toxoplasma gondii , however little do we know about the phosphodiesterase enzymes in this widespread obligate intracellular parasite. Here, we identified 18 phosphodiesterases ( Tg PDE1-18) in the parasite genome, most of which form apicomplexan-specific clades and lack archetypal regulatory motifs often found in mammalian PDEs. Genomic epitope-tagging in the tachyzoite stage showed the expression of 11 phosphodiesterases with diverse subcellular distributions...

However possibility of its inherent complications such as iatrogenic phimosis or preputial breakdown are the cause of controversy and reluctance regarding this procedure. This study evaluates the results of preputial reconstruction with TIP urethroplasty in distal and mid penile hypospadias repair and analyses if preputioplasty may be offered to these patients...

BACKGROUND: Phimosis and redundant prepuce are defined as the inability of the foreskin to be retracted behind the glans penis in uncircumcised males. To synthesize the evidence and provide the hierarchies of different circumcisions for phimosis and redundant prepuce, we performed an overall network meta-analysis (NMA) based on their comparative efficacy and safety. Some published evidence has revealed that the dendritic cells can interact with pathogens that exist in the inner foreskin. This information provides a new vision that pathogens could play a role through the redundant prepuce; numerous studies have failed to find pathogens in prostates of patients who had chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS). However, no studies have reported an association between foreskin length and CP/CPPS. Hence, we conducted a retrospective case-control study of clinical data from 322 CP/CPPS patients (case group) and 341 nonCP/CPPS patients (control group)...
