To the editor: We recently read with interest the results published by Maccari et al. in "Crossed looks on the dermatologist's position and the patient's preoccupations as to psoriasis and pregnancy: preliminary results of the PREGNAN-PSO study."1 This study sheds light on knowledge gaps in a cohort of dermatologists' understanding on treatment of psoriasis in pregnancy. We echo their concerns about the lack of existing safety data on systemic treatments, particularly in regards to biologics, used for psoriasis in pregnancy...

BACKGROUND: Physical activity has established health benefits, but motivation and adherence remain challenging. OBJECTIVE: We designed and launched a three-arm randomized trial to test artificial intelligence technology solutions to increase daily physical activity in cancer survivors. METHODS: A single-center, three-arm randomized clinical trial with an allocation ration of 1:1:1: (A) control, in which participants are provided written materials about the benefits of physical activity; (B) text intervention, where participants receive daily motivation from a fully automated, data-driven algorithmic text message via mobile phone (Coachtext); and (C) Voice Assist intervention, where participants are provided with an in-home on demand autonomous Intelligent Agent using data driven Interactive Digital Voice Assist on the Amazon Alexa/Echo (MyCoach)...

A 19-year-old male African penguin ( Spheniscus demersus ) was presented with coelomic distention after a 6-week history of lethargy and decreased appetite. Results of radiographs showed loss of coelomic detail, and ultrasound and computed tomography results revealed coelomic fluid and dilated hepatic veins. Echocardiography revealed moderate right atrial enlargement. Findings were consistent with right-sided cardiac disease. Treatment with furosemide initially reduced ascites, but the clinical condition worsened weeks later and enalapril, pimobendan, and sildenafil were added to the medical therapy...

Single-cell transfection is a powerful technique for delivering chemicals, drugs, or probes into arbitrary, specific single cells. This technique is especially important when the analysis of molecular function and cellular behavior in individual microscopic organisms such as protists requires the precise identification of the target cell, as fluorescence labeling of bulk populations makes tracking of individual motile protists virtually impossible. Herein, we have modified current single-cell electroporation techniques for delivering fluorescent markers into single Euglena gracilis, a motile photosynthetic microalga...

PURPOSE: To detect anti-CEACAM5 targeted superparamagnetic iron oxide (SPIO) particles in vitro on the cell surface by quantitative magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and to compare with flow cytometry. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The monoclonal mouse antibody T84.1 and an appropriate IgG isotype antibody were conjugated to dextran-coated SPIO particles. HT29 cells expressing carcinoembryonic antigen (CEACAM5) were treated with antibody-conjugated SPIO particles. Purified cell samples were examined on a 3...

AIMS: To evaluate the use of MR imaging, before and after i.v. administration of Magnevist, for assessing the femoral head perfusion after femoral neck fracture. Evaluation of femoral head viability is important because the outcome of internal fixation is adversely affected by the development of capital osteonecrosis. METHODS: We performed MRI of the femoral head in 48 hours of injury, on 10 patients with femoral neck fracture. Five patients underwent MR imaging of the hip utilizing fat-suppressed (STIR) sequences and the others, T1-weighted spin-echo sequences before and after i...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) are areas of low signal intensity on gradient echo T2*-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (T2*MRI) corresponding to hemosiderin deposits in the perivascular space. Microangiopathy from atherosclerosis or amyloid angiopathy might lead to the formation of these lesions; therefore, there may be associations between CMBs and cardiovascular risk factors, APOE allele status, and brain morphology. We examined these relationships in the Framingham Study (FHS)...
