The escalating incidence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is closely associated with a high-fat diet, leading to a decline in quality of life and significant health impairment. 7-Hydroxyflavone (7-HY) is a flavonoid known for its anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic, and antioxidant effects. This study aims to assess the ameliorative effects of 7-HY on NAFLD induced by a high-fat diet and elucidate underlying mechanisms. Oleic acid/palmitic acid-induced HepG2 cells and C57BL/6 mice on a high-fat diet were utilized as in vitro and in vivo models...

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: In ancient Mexican cultures, the Persea americana Mill seed has been used against gastrointestinal diseases, due to high concentrations of bioactive compounds. According to Traditional Mexican Medicine, P. americana seed aqueous infusion is used against roundworms, intestinal worms, parasites, and gastrointestinal problems, in a dose taken over three or four days. In addition, Mexican Society of Natural History indicates the traditional use of P. americana seed powder as an antiparasitic, and antibacterial (MTM, 2009)...

Recent data showing the compositional variation and storage behavior among different oat batches for the purpose of food remains limited. Lipids of twenty oat flour samples of pure cultivars grown in Finland during 2019 were extracted and fractionated into neutral and polar-rich lipids. Flour was stored for nine months, and profiles of volatiles and tocols were analyzed to reveal oxidative stability. The lipid content was 5.9-8.9 g per 100 g of flour [DW] and consisted of 78.7 ± 2.5 % neutral and 21...

BACKGROUND: Aeromonas hydrophila ( A. hydrophila ) is a bacterium with zoonotic potential and is multidrug-resistant. It utilizes hemolysin and aerolysin to spread infection. Black soldier flies (BSFs) can be antibacterial because of the fatty acids it contains. AIMS: This study aimed to investigate and compare the fatty acid profiles of BSF prepupae grown in fermented and nonfermented media using bioinformatics tools and assess their potential as antibacterial agents against A...

Extreme environmental conditions affect the synthesis and accumulation of bioactive metabolites in halophytic plants. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence and quantity of key health-promoting phytochemicals in Croatian sea fennel, one of the most popular Mediterranean halophytes with a wide range of uses. The EOs were characterised by a high content of limonene (up to 93%), while the fatty acid profile shows a low content of oleic acid and the presence of valuable linoleic acid (ω-6) and linolenic acid (ω-3) in high percentages...

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Hermetia illucens , a black soldier fly, is widely recognized for sustainable recycling of organic waste. Black soldier fly larvae (BSFLs) can consume various types of biowastes and convert them into nutrient-rich biomass, including proteins, lipids, chitin, and minerals. This study investigated the best extraction method by comparing the fatty acid profiles, percentage yield, and antioxidant properties of BSFL oil extracted using different extraction methods. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The physicochemical properties, fatty acid profile, and free radical scavenging ability of BSFL oil were analyzed using six extraction methods...

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have demonstrated that trans fatty acids (TFAs) intake was linked to an increased risk of chronic diseases. As a novel systemic inflammatory biomarker, the clinical value and efficacy of the systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) have been widely explored. However, the association between TFAs and SII is still unclear. Therefore, the study aims to investigate the connection between TFAs and SII in US adults. In this study, a traditional Chinese medicine microspheres (TCM-MPs) target fishing strategy was developed to discover the key drug targets from complex system. The microspheres are composed of Fe3 O4 magnetic nanolayer, oleic acid modified layer, the photoaffinity group (4- [3-(Trifluoromethyl)-3H-diazirin-3-yl] benzoic acid, TAD) layer and active small molecule layer from inside to outside...

Triple negative breast carcinoma (TNBC) accounts for 15-20 % of all incident breast cancers (BC) and is known to be highly invasive, has fewer treatment options, and tends to have a worse prognosis. However, due to its biological heterogeneity and diverse clinical and epidemiological behaviors, TNBC lacks a tumor-specific targeted therapy. In the present work we have developed a TNBC-specific targeted nano-delivery agent comprising of a cRGD labeled magneto-liposome (T-LMD) co-encapsulated with oleic acid coated iron oxide nanoparticles (MN-OA) and doxorubicin (Dox) in the liposome bilayer and core, respectively...

To further develop its utility value and explore its potential in combating glycolipid metabolic disorders, we designed a series of experiments to investigate the structure, antioxidant activity, and anti-glycolipid metabolic disorder activity of Phyllanthus emblica polysaccharides. In this study, we extracted and purified polysaccharides from Phyllanthus emblica and thoroughly analyzed their structure using various techniques, including NMR, methylation analysis, and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy...

Liquid self-nano emulsifying drug delivery systems (SNEDDS) of furosemide (FSM) have been explored as a potential solution for enhancing solubility and permeability but are associated with rapid emulsification, spontaneous drug release, and poor in vivo correlation. To overcome the shortcoming, this study aimed to develop liquid and solid self-emulsifying drug delivery systems for FSM, compare formulation dynamics, continue in vivo therapeutic efficacy, and investigate the advantages of solidification. For this purpose, liquid SNEDDS (L-SEDDS-FSM) were formed using oleic acid as an oil, chremophore EL, Tween 80, Tween 20 as a surfactant, and PEG 400 as a co-surfactant containing 53 mg/mL FSM...

This study was tasked with the design of mucoadhesive buccal films (MBFs) containing a peptide drug, leuprolide (LEU), or its diverse nanoparticles (NPs), for enhanced membrane permeability via self-assembled nanonization and deformable behavior. An LEU-oleic acid conjugate (LOC) and its self-assembled NPs (LON) were developed. Additionally, a deformable variant of LON (d-LON) was originally developed by incorporating l-α-phosphatidylcholine into LON as an edge activator. Addressing the issue of inadequate temperature tolerance in traditional polymers, in this study, we successfully executed a one-step synthesis of intelligent-responsive polymers which have excellent adaptability in water-gas alternating displacement scenarios. Utilizing the fatty acid method, we produced OANND from oleic acid (OA) and N,N-dimethyl-1,3-propanediamine (NND). Upon testing the average particle size in the aqueous solution both prior and subsequent to CO2 passage, it became evident that OANND assumes the form of a small-molecule particle in the aqueous phase, minimizing damage during formation...

Mulberry leaves, a common traditional Chinese medicine, represent a potential nutritional strategy to improve the fat profile, also known as the lipo-nutrition, of pork. However, the effects of mulberry leaves on pork lipo-nutrition and the microorganisms and metabolites in the porcine gut remain unclear.
