The surface adhesion of bacterial cells and the in vivo biocompatibility of a new ceramic-metal composite made of zirconium dioxide and tantalum were evaluated. Within the framework of an in vitro study using the crystal violet staining and colony counting methods, a relatively similar adhesion of Streptococcus oralis to the 3Y-TZP/Ta biocermet (roughness Ra = 0.12 ± 0.04 µm) and Ti-Al6-V4 titanium alloy (Ra = 0.04 ± 0.01 µm) was found. In addition, in an in vivo preliminary study focused on the histological analysis of a series of rods implanted in the jaws of beagle dogs for a six-month period, the absence of any fibrous tissue or inflammatory reaction at the interface between the implanted 3Y-TZP/Ta biocermets and the new bone was found...

Crowns have been recommended to treat decayed teeth and rebuild teeth function. The dental management of children with autism is a tremendous challenge for pediatric dentists due to the impaired behaviors and communication disorders. In this context, a 5-year-old boy with autism was treated to solve carious lesions under the assistance of general anesthesia. The posterior occlusal function was restored, and the crossbite existing in the primary anterior teeth was approached merely by NuSmile® zirconia crowns (ZCs) rather than orthodontic intervention...

In this study, we investigated the effects of surface treatment on the fracture strength of porcelain-veneered zirconia. Highly translucent 4 mol% yttria-stabilized zirconia disks (KATANA HT, Kuraray Noritake Dental) were divided into three surface-treatment groups: 1)as-sintered, 2) alumina sandblasted, and 3) ground. Crystallographic and surface-roughness analyses were conducted for each group. Veneering ceramics (Cerabien ZR, Kuraray Noritake Dental) were applied to the zirconia surfaces. The fracture strengths of the porcelain-veneered zirconia disks were measured using biaxial flexural-strength tests...

Research on 3-dimensional (3D) printed porous zirconia-based dental implants is still in its infancy. This study aimed to evaluate the biological responses of novel zirconia implants with p-cell structures fabricated by 3D printing. The solid zirconia samples exhibited comparable density, 3-point flexural strength, and accelerated aging properties compared to specimens prepared previously by conventional methods. Cell-based experiments showed that the p-cell structure promoted cell proliferation, adhesion, and osteogenesis-related protein expression...

Accurate shade assessment, combined with tailored treatment strategies and effective communication, is crucial. To improve the precision and reliability of aesthetic dental treatments, new shade-matching technologies have emerged. Current clinical methods for determining tooth shade utilize both visual assessments and instrumental techniques. Silane chemistry has emerged as a powerful tool for surface modification, offering a versatile means to enhance the properties of various substrates, such as dental implant abutment materials. In this study, we investigated the stability of the 3-aminopropyldiisopropylethoxysilane (APDS) layer on yttria-partially stabilized zirconia (Y-TZP) surfaces after mechanical, acid, and thermal treatment in order to simulate fluctuations within the oral cavity. To accomplish that, the viability of human gingival fibroblasts on APDS-modified surfaces after applied treatment strategies was assessed by live/dead staining...

Traumatic dental injuries can occur due to various reasons such as accidents, sports injuries, fights, falls, and others. These injuries can affect the tooth, gums, and surrounding tissues, and can range from minor chips and cracks to severe fractures, dislocations, and avulsions (when the tooth is completely knocked out of the socket). The most common way to address this is by replacing affected tooth with dental implant. In this work two different implant category i.e., traditional implant and composite implant were designed using Titanium grade 4, zirconium oxide-reinforced lithium silicate (ZLS), and Zirconia (ZrO2)...
