OBJECTIVE: Tumors located in the retrochiasmatic region with extension to the third ventricle might be difficult to access when the pituitary-chiasmatic corridor is narrow. Similarly, tumor extension into the interpeduncular and retrosellar space poses a major surgical challenge. Pituitary transposition techniques have been developed to gain additional access. However, when preoperative pituitary function is already impaired or the risk of postoperative panhypopituitarism (PH) is considered to be particularly high, removal of the pituitary gland (PG) might be the preferred option to increase the working corridor...

In this article we report a case of a 53-year-old patient diagnosed with end-stage osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. The patient underwent treatment with knee joint distraction (KJD) with the aim to postpone total knee arthroplasty and prevent potential revision surgery. To assess the effect of KJD, a 3D gait analysis was performed preoperative and one year postoperative. In this patient, preoperative 3D gait analysis revealed an increased knee adduction moment (KAM) compared to healthy levels. Postoperative the KAM decreased, approaching healthy levels, suggesting potential improvements in disease status or in gait...

An enlarged iliopectineal bursa (IB) can cause pressure on iliofemoral veins. Clinical presentation can manifest as asymmetrical lower extremity edema. This case report demonstrates extensive asymmetrical leg edema caused by femoral vein compression based on iliopectineal bursitis (IB-itis) associated with advanced osteoarthritis (OA) of the left hip joint with an outline of relevant current literature. A female patient presented with left hip pain and edema in the leg. X-ray showed severe OA of the left hip...

Liner dissociations are rare but catastrophic complications after THA, requiring revision surgery. Although this complication has been well documented in THA with modular components, it has been rarely described in preassembled designs. In this report we present a rare case of liner dissociation in a ceramic-on-ceramic pre-assembled cup design. A 41-year-old man who received THA seven years ago, presented with sudden pain in the hip. Radiographic examination confirmed a small dissociation of the liner component in the acetabular shell, as well as radiolucency between the acetabular shell and the ceramic liner, and pneumarthrosis...

This case report describes a single patient with recurrent implant fractures of his left total hip replacement. According to our knowledge this is the first patient in literature with recurrent implant fractures. This is a rare phenomenon as reason for revision. Risk factors for implant failure of total hip replacement include a lack of proximal support, a distally well fixed stem with proximal debonding, malalignment of the stem and raised BMI.

Degenerative pesplanovalgus is a progressive disabling condition; there are more than one surgical procedure used in the treatment with varied outcomes. The aim of the current study is to highlight the benefits of the medial column fusion surgery in the treatment of this condition. Nine adult patients with rigid degenerative pesplanovalgus (without significant valgus heel deformity) underwent medial column fusion between January 2015 to December 2020. The procedure was combined with subtalar fusion in four patients and lateral column lengthening in one patient...

PURPOSE: Syphilis is a "Great Masquerader" because of its versatile clinical manifestations. We aim to report a patient whose first presentation was with presumed autoimmune hepatitis. Fulminant retinitis subsequently ensued, thus enabling correct diagnosis and treatment. METHODS: Case description. RESULTS: A 62-year-old male presented with bilateral drop in vision. One month earlier, right eye (RE) arteritic ischemic optic neuropathy was suspected because of severe headache, sudden drop in vision, relative afferent pupillary defect, and elevated inflammatory markers...

Epidermal cysts are among the most common benign subcutaneous tumors. However, malignant transformation of benign epidermal cysts into squamous carcinomas has been reported. Owing to its low incidence rate, the clinical and pathological features of this condition are not well understood. This study aimed to analyze the clinical and pathological characteristics of the malignant transformation of epidermal cysts, which could suggest an appropriate treatment strategy. We conducted a retrospective study of 9 patients diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma arising from epidermal cysts...

BACKGROUND: Sleep is a potentially modifiable factor associated with dementia, including Alzheimer's disease, but current evidence supporting this is insufficient. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine whether sleep duration and bedtime patterns are associated with the risk of dementia among middle-aged and older people. METHODS: This cohort study had an eight-year follow-up period. Participants were 13,601 community-dwelling people aged 40-74 years living in Murakami (Niigata, Japan)...

As a rare biliary tract tumor, intraductal papillary neoplasm of the bile duct (IPNB) is most common in elderly men and can progress to cholangiocarcinoma- (CCa) if left untreated. It is reported that IPNB usually communicates with the bile duct. As a result, the downstream bile ducts are imaged asymmetrically dilated. However, a case of IPNB that we report here is different. Enhanced MRI revealed a lack of connectivity with the bile duct in this case. Based on this, the purpose of this case study is to suggest that the majority of imaging doctors should widely understand the various imaging manifestations of the disease to avoid misdiagnosis...

Incorporation of secondary redox-inactive cations into heterobimetallic complexes is an attractive strategy for modulation of metal-centered redox chemistry, but quantification of the consequences of incorporating strongly Lewis acidic trivalent cations has received little attention. Here, a family of seven heterobimetallic complexes that pair a redox-active nickel center with La3+ , Y3+ , Lu3+ , Sr2+ , Ca2+ , K+ , and Na+ (in the form of their triflate salts) have been prepared on a heteroditopic ligand platform to understand how chemical behavior varies across the comprehensive series...

Granulomatous lobular mastitis (GLM) is an idiopathic inflammatory breast disease that tends to recur on the same side. With the accumulation of clinical cases, it has been observed that GLM can also occur contralaterally. Currently, most studies on GLM focus on treatment methods and risk factors for ipsilateral recurrence, and there are few reports on bilateral GLM. The study aimed to summarize the clinical characteristics of patients with bilateral GLM by reviewing their clinical data, and to discuss the risk factors affecting the occurrence of bilateral GLM...
