Accurate genetic parameters are crucial for predicting breeding values and selection responses in breeding programs. Genetic parameters change with selection, reducing additive genetic variance and changing genetic correlations. This study investigates the dynamic changes in genetic parameters for residual feed intake (RFI), gain (GAIN), breast percentage (BP), and femoral head necrosis (FHN) in a broiler population that undergoes selection, both with and without the use of genomic information. Changes in SNP effects were also investigated when including genomic information...

This paper employs statistical complexity measure (SCM) to investigate the occurrence of stochastic multiresonance (SMR) induced by noise and time delay in small-world neural networks coupled with FitzHugh-Nagumo (FHN) neurons. Our findings reveal that SCM exhibits four local maxima at four optimal noise levels, providing evidence for the occurrence of quadruple stochastic resonances. When time delay τ is taken into account in the information transmission, under moderate noise levels, SCM shows several local maxima when <mml:math xmlns:mml="https://www...

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are non-coding RNAs generated by reverse splicing. They are involved in biological process and human diseases by interacting with specific RNA-binding proteins (RBPs). Due to traditional biological experiments being costly, computational methods have been proposed to predict the circRNA-RBP interaction. However, these methods have problems of single feature extraction. Therefore, we propose a novel model called circ-FHN, which utilizes only circRNA sequences to predict circRNA-RBP interactions...

Well-defined nanostructures are crucial for precisely understanding nano-bio interactions. However, nanoparticles (NPs) fabricated through conventional synthesis approaches often lack poor controllability and reproducibility. Herein, a synthetic biology-based strategy is introduced to fabricate uniformly reproducible protein-based NPs, achieving precise control over heterogeneous components of the NPs. Specifically, a ferritin assembly toolbox system is developed that enables intracellular assembly of ferritin subunits/variants in Escherichia coli...

The main objectives of neuromorphic engineering are the research, modeling, and implementation of neural functioning in the human brain. We provide a hardware solution that can replicate such a nature-inspired system by merging multiple scientific domains and is based on neural cell processes. This work provides a modified version of the original Fitz-Hugh Nagumo (FHN) neuron using a simple 2V term called Hybrid Piece-Wised Base-2 Model (HPWBM), which accurately reproduces numerous patterns of the original neuron model...

The study of neuron interactions and hardware implementations are crucial research directions in neuroscience, particularly in developing large-scale biological neural networks. The FitzHugh-Nagumo (FHN) model is a popular neuron model with highly biological plausibility, but its complexity makes it difficult to apply at scale. This paper presents a cost-saving and improved precision approximation algorithm for the digital implementation of the FHN model. By converting the computational data into floating-point numbers, the original multiplication calculations are replaced by adding the floating-point exponent part and fitting the mantissa part with piecewise linear...

Feed-forward effect gives rise to synchronization in neuron firing in deep layers of multiple neuronal network. But complete synchronization means the loss of encoding ability. In order to avoid the contradiction, we ask whether partial synchronization (coexistence of disordered and synchronized neuron firing emerges, also called chimera state) as a compromise strategy can achieve in the feed-forward multiple-layer network. The answer is YES. In order to manifest our argument, we design a multi-layer neuronal network in which neurons in every layer are arranged in a ring topology and neuron firing propagates within (intra-) and across (inter-) the multiply layers...

This article focuses on the qualitative analysis of complex dynamics arising in a few mathematical models in neuroscience context. We first discuss the dynamics arising in the three-dimensional FitzHugh-Rinzel (FHR) model and then illustrate those arising in a class of non-homogeneous FitzHugh-Nagumo (Nh-FHN) reaction-diffusion systems. FHR and Nh-FHN models can be used to generate relevant complex dynamics and wave-propagation phenomena in neuroscience context. Such complex dynamics include canards, mixed-mode oscillations (MMOs), Hopf-bifurcations and their spatially extended counterpart...

Based on the stability of the model, the generation of self-excited firing patterns is justified. The FitzHugh-Nagumo (FHN) system is used as a paradigmatic model demonstrating basic neuron activities. First, in order to reveal how biological neurons can be embedded within an ANN, we train the ANN with nonlinear neurons to solve a basic image recognition problem with an MNIST database; next, we describe how FHN systems can be introduced into this trained ANN...

Femur head necrosis (FHN), also known as bacterial chondronecrosis with osteomyelitis (BCO), has remained an animal welfare and production concern for modern broilers regardless of efforts to select against it in primary breeder flocks. Characterized by the bacterial infection of weak bone, FHN has been found in birds without clinical lameness and remains only detectable via necropsy. This presents an opportunity to utilize untargeted metabolomics to elucidate potential non-invasive biomarkers and key causative pathways involved in FHN pathology...

Femoral head necrosis (FHN) is a common leg disease in broilers, resulting in economic losses in the poultry industry. The occurrence of FHN is closely related to the decrease in the number of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and the change in differentiation direction. This study aimed to investigate the function of differentiation of BMSCs in the development of FHN. We isolated and cultured BMSCs from spontaneous FHN-affected broilers and normal broilers, assessed the ability of BMSCs into three lineages by multiple staining methods, and found that BMSCs isolated from FHN-affected broilers demonstrated enhanced lipogenic differentiation, activated Notch-RBPJ signaling pathway, and diminished osteogenic and chondrogenic differentiation...
