From the perspective of lncRNA MALAT1 regulating cholesterol metabolism in chondrocytes, this paper explores the effect and mechanism of Tougu Xiaotong Capsules(TGXTC) in delaying the degeneration of osteoarthritis. After one week of adaptive feeding, 48(8-week-old) C57BL/6 mice were randomly divided into a blank group(12 mice) and a model group(36 mice) by random number table method. The mice in the model group were anesthetized by inhalation of 5% isoflurane, and the OA model was induced by Hulth method. The experiment randomly divided the mice into a model group(12 mice), a drug-positive group(taururso-deoxycholic acid)(12 mice), and a TGXTC group(12 mice)...

The Shexiang Zhuifeng Zhitong Ointment with the effects of dispelling wind, removing dampness, dissipating cold, and relieving pain is used for treating arthralgia, muscular pain, and sprain pain caused by cold-dampness obstruction. To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Shexiang Zhuifeng Zhitong Ointment in relieving the pain due to knee osteoarthritis(syndrome of cold-dampness obstruction), a randomized, double-blind, parallel controlled, multicenter clinical trial was conducted. The stratified randomization method was used to randomize the 240 subjects into a treatment group and a control group in a ratio of 1∶1...

Osteoarthritis (OA) remains a chronic incurable condition, presenting substantial challenges in treatment. This study explores a novel strategy by investigating the concurrent use of cuminaldehyde, a natural compound, with indomethacin in animal models of MIA-induced OA. Our results demonstrate that the co-administration of cuminaldehyde and indomethacin does indeed produce a superior effect when compared to these compounds individually, significantly enhancing therapeutic outcomes. This effect is evidenced by a marked reduction in pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-6 and IFN-γ, alongside a significant increase in the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10, compared to treatments with each compound alone...

BACKGROUND: Basil is a widely used herb in Persian medicine and is gaining recognition as a functional food worldwide. AIM OF THE STUDY: This trial aimed to assess the effectiveness of a traditional formulation of basil oil in comparison with diclofenac gel in treating knee osteoarthritis, considering its established anti-inflammatory, anti-nociceptive, and anti-oxidative properties. MATERIALS AND METHODS: One hundred eligible patients were equally randomized to the traditional basil oil (containing sesame oil) and diclofenac gel groups...

BACKGROUND: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a persistent degenerative condition characterized by the deterioration of cartilage. The Chinese herbal formula Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata- Angelica Sinensis-Radix Achyranthis Bidentatae (RAR) has often been used in effective prescriptions for KOA as the main functional drug, but its underlying mechanism remains unclear. Therefore, network pharmacology and verification experiments were employed to investigate the impact and mode of action of RAR in the treatment of KOA...

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA), a major health and economic problem facing older adults worldwide, is a degenerative joint disease. Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch. (GC) plays an integral role in many classic Chinese medicine prescriptions for treating knee osteoarthritis. Still, the role of GC in treating KOA is unclear. To explore the pharmacological mechanism of GC against KOA, UPLC-Q-TOF/MS was conducted to detect the main compounds in GC. The therapeutic effect of GC on DMM-induced osteoarthritic mice was assessed by histomorphology, μCT, behavioural tests, and immunohistochemical staining...

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease primarily affecting the cartilage. The therapeutic potential of the Dipsacus asper-Achyranthes bidentate herb pair for OA has been acknowledged, yet its precise mechanism remains elusive. In this study, we conducted a comprehensive analysis of metabolomic changes and therapeutic outcomes in osteoarthritic rats, employing a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry-based metabolomics approach in conjunction with histopathological and biochemical assessments. The rats were divided into six groups: control, model, positive control, Dipsacus asper treated, Achyranthes bidentata treated, and herb pair treated groups...

Background Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a prevalent degenerative disease that affects the knee joints, particularly among individuals aged over 40 years. It leads to pain, stiffness, and reduced quality of life; affects approximately 300 million individuals worldwide; and is increasing, particularly in developed nations. Although treatments for KOA range from conservative measures to surgical interventions, such as total knee arthroplasty (TKA), the financial burden of TKA in many countries underscores the urgent need for effective conservative therapies...

Lei's formula (LSF), a traditional Chinese herbal remedy, is recognized for its remarkable clinical effectiveness in treating osteoarthritis (OA). Despite its therapeutic potential, the exact molecular mechanisms underlying LSF's action in OA have remained enigmatic. Existing research has shed light on the role of the mTOR signaling pathway in promoting chondrocyte senescence, a central factor in OA-related cartilage degeneration. Consequently, targeting mTOR to mitigate chondrocyte senescence presents a promising avenue for OA treatment...
