The ecosystem and economy's reliance on clean water is influenced by various factors such as geology, topography, soil types, activities, and the presence of plants and animals. The Ghana Water Company is encountering difficulties in delivering water to consumers in the Ashanti Region due to the shortage of surface water resources, leading to water rationing in the area. Furthermore, poor waste disposal practices, illegal mining, use of fertilizers, and industrial activities have resulted in surface and groundwater source damage...

In this paper, we report our use of a hardware encoder-based synchronization method for a fast terahertz time-domain spectroscopy raster scanner built with the commercially available TeraFlash Smart platform. We describe the principles of our method, including our incorporation of synchronization signals from various devices included in the scanner. We also describe its implementation in a microcontroller with a dedicated counter. By such means, a fast scanning mode was obtained, which was 35 times faster than a traditional step-by-step approach...

Terahertz (THz) non-destructive testing can detect internal defects in dielectric materials. However, this technology is mainly used for detecting thin and simple structures at present, lacking validations for the detection effectiveness of internal defects in thicker and more complex structures, such as fiber-web-reinforced composite sandwich panels. In this study, samples of fiber-web-reinforced polymethacrylimide foam sandwich panels, which are, respectively, 20 mm and 30 mm thick, were made to detect the internal debonding, inclusion, pore, and crack defects by the THz time-domain spectroscopy system (THz-TDS)...

Cryptorchidism (CO) or undescended testes is defined as the failure of one or both testes to be positioned inside the scrotum. Typically, cryptorchidism is detected at birth or shortly thereafter, and in humans, it is considered to be part of the testicular dysgenesis syndrome (TDS), a complex pathology regarding the male reproductive system that apparently involves the interaction of both genetic and environmental harmful factors, mainly during embryonic development. Serotonin (5-HT) is an ancient molecule that participates in a broad range of body functions, and in recent years, its importance in reproduction has started to be elucidated...

Water plays an essential role in sustaining life on Earth as an indispensable natural resource. In recent decades, dependence on groundwater for domestic and industrial purposes has become inevitable. The Ranipet industrial environs (RIE) has many tanneries and chemical industries, which affects the groundwater quality. This study assessed groundwater quality and its suitability for domestic, agricultural, and human health risk assessments. 40 groundwater samples (28 open wells and 12 bore wells) were collected during pre-monsoon 2022 and analyzed by employing multivariate statistics, standard scatter plots, irrigation indices, and health risk assessment...

The main thrust of this research survey is to assess the level of groundwater contaminations and their consequences. This study investigated the concentrations of fluoride (F- ), the suitability of groundwater for human consumption, the physicochemical characteristics affecting the water quality, and non-carcinogenic adverse health risks to both children and adults in the Bongo district in Northern Ghana. The findings revealed that the groundwater had a mean pH, salinity, TDS, conductivity, and turbidity below the WHO guideline values with a mean fluoride concentration of 1...

Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) has been widely used for food and drug identification. The classification information of a THz spectrum usually does not exist in the whole spectral band but exists only in one or several small intervals. Therefore, feature selection is indispensable in THz-based substance identification. However, most THz-based identification methods empirically intercept the low-frequency band of the THz absorption coefficients for analysis. In order to adaptively find out important intervals of the THz spectra, an interval-based sparse ensemble multi-class classifier (ISEMCC) for THz spectral data classification is proposed...

This paper analyzes the distribution characteristics of the historical data from five sensors at a specific time, displays them graphically in real time, and provides an early warning of exceeding the standard; It selects four water samples from different sections of the Li River, based on the national standard method, the average measurement errors of Temperature, PH, TDS, Conductivity and Turbidity are 0...

We comprehensively characterized and compared the aroma profiles of these two rice-based Baijiu types using static sensory experiments (QDA, quantitative descriptive analysis) and dynamic sensory experiments (TDS, temporal dominance of sensations). Qingya-flavored Baijiu exhibited pronounced plant, oily, and roasted aromas, while traditional rice-flavored Baijiu displayed more prominent fruity, floral, and sour notes...
