INTRODUCTION: The associated symptoms of hypogonadism have been reported in patients with various types of cancer. However, the prevalence and significance of hypogonadism among certain hematologic malignancies have not been completely summarized in recent literature. OBJECTIVE: In this review we aimed to examine the current literature on hypogonadism in patients with hematologic malignancies, with emphasis on leukemias, lymphomas, and multiple myeloma (MM). METHODS: This review included relevant studies published before July 2023 that were retrieved through a search of PubMed using the keywords "hematologic cancer," "hematologic malignancy," blood cancer," "leukemia," "lymphoma," "hypogonadism," "multiple myeloma," and "testosterone...

Diabetic testicular damage is quite a common and significant complication in diabetic men, which could result in infertility. The natural fertility rate of type 1 diabetes men is only 50% because of testicular damage. This research first aimed to explore the intervention effect of C3G on testicular tissue damage induced by diabetes. Here, a streptozotocin-induced type 1 diabetic rat model was established, and then C3G was administered. After 8 weeks of C3G supplementation, the symptoms of diabetes (e.g., high blood glucose, lower body weight, polydipsia, polyphagia) were relieved, and at the same time that sperm motility and viability increased, sperm abnormality decreased in C3G-treated diabetic rats...

PURPOSE: Androgen receptors are expressed in the pelvic floor and lower urinary tract. However, the association between serum testosterone and overactive bladder (OAB) in women remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate their association in a nationally representative population. METHODS: In this cross-sectional study, we collected data on female participants older than 20 years with serum total testosterone measurements and OAB questionnaires from the 2011-2016 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES)...

Growing evidence indicates that gut microbiota is involved in the regulation of the host's sex hormone levels, such as through interfering with the sex hormone metabolism in the intestine. However, if gut microbiota or its metabolites directly influence the sex hormone biosynthesis in the gonad remains largely unknown. Our previous study showed that colistin, as a narrow-spectrum antibiotic, can significantly downregulate the serum testosterone levels and thus enhance the antitumor efficiency of anti-PD-L1 in male mice; however, the underlying mechanism for the regulation of the host's testosterone levels remains uninvestigated...

For some patients, feminine facial features may cause significant gender dysphoria. Multiple nonsurgical and surgical techniques exist to masculinize facial features. Nonsurgical techniques include testosterone supplementation and dermal fillers. Surgical techniques include soft tissue manipulation, synthetic implants, regenerative scaffolding, or bony reconstruction. Many techniques are derived from experience with cisgender patients, but are adapted with special considerations to differing anatomy between cisgender and transgender men and women...

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is associated with reproductive disorders and adverse cardiometabolic risk factors that can negatively impact the general health of women. Inulin-type fructans (ITFs) are proposed to beneficially affect risk factors associated with metabolic disorders. Whether ITFs can help with the management of PCOS by modifying insulin resistance (IR) and androgen levels has not yet been explored. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of ITFs with different degrees of polymerization on insulin resistance, blood lipids, anthropometric measures, and hormonal status in overweight and obese women with PCOS...

The protective action of melatonin (MLT) against the harmful effects of cadmium (Cd) on testicular activity in rats has been documented previously; however, the involved molecular mechanisms have yet to be elucidated. Herein, we investigate the involvement of the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) on the ability of MLT to counteract the damage induced by Cd on the rat testicular activity. Our study confirmed that Cd has harmful effects on the testes of rats and the protective action exerted by MLT. We reported, for the first time, that the addition of rapamycin (Rapa), a specific mTOR inhibitor, to animals co-treated with Cd and MLT completely abolished the beneficial effects exerted by MLT, indicating that the mTOR pathway partially modulates its helpful effects on Cd testicular toxicity...
