BACKGROUND: The unprecedented emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic necessitated the development and global distribution of vaccines, making the understanding of global vaccine acceptance and hesitancy crucial to overcoming barriers to vaccination and achieving widespread immunization. OBJECTIVE: This umbrella review synthesizes findings from systematic reviews and meta-analyses to provide insights into global perceptions on COVID-19 vaccine acceptance and hesitancy across diverse populations and regions...

BACKGROUND: There have been over 772 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 worldwide. A significant portion of these infections will lead to long COVID (post-COVID-19 condition) and its attendant morbidities and costs. Numerous life-altering complications have already been associated with the development of long COVID, including chronic fatigue, brain fog, and dangerous heart rhythms. OBJECTIVE: We aim to derive an actionable long COVID case definition consisting of significantly increased signs, symptoms, and diagnoses to support pandemic-related clinical, public health, research, and policy initiatives...

RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED TRIAL
Chloe French, Sorrel Burden, Emma Stanmore
BACKGROUND: Digital health tools can support behavior change and allow interventions to be scalable at a minimal cost. Keep-on-Keep-up Nutrition (KOKU-Nut) is a free, tablet-based app that focuses on increasing physical activity and improving the dietary intake of older adults based on UK guidelines. The intervention targets an important research area identified as a research priority reported by the James Lind Alliance priority setting partnership for malnutrition. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to assess the feasibility of using the digital health tool KOKU-Nut among community-dwelling older adults to inform a future randomized controlled trial...

BACKGROUND: To assess the amount of breast cancer overdiagnosis associated with the National Health Service Breast Screening Programme (NHSBSP) that started in 1988 in England. METHODS: First, numbers of breast cancers in women eligible for breast screening not attending screening were estimated for the period 1995-2019, which were extrapolated to all women. A second method was based on ratios of incidence rates of breast cancers in women aged 50-69 to women aged 70 years or more in 1971-1985...

The incidence of thromboembolic events (TEs) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) has rarely been reported. The MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library databases were searched. The primary outcome was the incidence of TEs, and the secondary outcome was the relationship between TEs and overall survival (OS) following ICI therapy. A subgroup analysis of TE incidents was performed according to the TE type and combination regimens. The I2 statistic was used to determine the heterogeneity, and funnel plots and Egger's test were used to assess publication bias...

The emergence and global spread of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) pose a serious threat to public health, underscoring the urgent need for novel antibacterial interventions. Here, we screened 18 newly synthesized N,N'-diarylurea derivatives to identify compounds with activity against MRSA. Our investigations led to the discovery of a small molecule, SCB-24, which exhibited promising antimicrobial activity against MRSA USA300. Notably, SCB-24 demonstrated high activity even in the presence of 10% fetal bovine serum and showed excellent selectivity for bacterial over mammalian cells...

BACKGROUND: The presence of scalp nevi in children frequently causes apprehension, leading physicians and parents to consider unnecessary biopsies or excisions of scalp nevi in children. There are limited data on the dermoscopic characteristics of scalp nevi in Chinese children. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to comprehensively analyze the clinical and dermoscopic features of scalp nevi in this specific population of Chinese pediatric patients, with a focus on a single pediatric dermatologic surgery practice...

BACKGROUND: Outpatient visits for nonmelanoma skin cancer (NMSC) and actinic keratoses (AK) have risen steadily in the United States, notably among Medicare beneficiaries. Individuals may delay seeking care for minimally symptomatic conditions until they qualify for Medicare coverage, indicating potential delay of nonurgent screening interventions for uninsured or underinsured patients younger than 65 years. OBJECTIVE: This study investigates whether an atypical increase in outpatient visits for NMSC, AK, or actinic cheilitis (AC) occurs at the age of Medicare transition by utilizing the National Ambulatory Care Survey from 1993 to 2019...

A proportion of returned medications may potentially meet quality standards to be reused safely. In Australia, there is no regulatory guidance available to facilitate such medication reuse. This narrative review aimed to identify and review international literature describing medication reuse programs to provide insight into their implementation and potential barriers. Using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) -based guidelines, a literature search was conducted in Medline, Scopus, and Embase using key words such as 'medication' and 'reuse' to identify relevant articles...

Amid the discourse on foreign influence investigations in research, this study examines the impact of NIH-initiated investigations starting in 2018 on U.S. scientists' productivity, focusing on those collaborating with Chinese peers. Using publication data from 2010 to 2021, we analyze over 113,000 scientists and find that investigations coincide with reduced productivity for those with China collaborations compared to those with other international collaborators, especially when accounting for publication impact...
