PURPOSE: To study the capability of diffusion-relaxation correlation spectroscopic imaging (DR-CSI) on subtype classification and grade differentiation for small renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Histogram analysis for apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) was studied for comparison. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 61 patients with small RCC (< 4 cm) were included in the retrospective study. MRI data were reviewed, including a multi-b (0-1500 s/mm2 ) multi-TE (51-200 ms) diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) sequence...

The differential diagnosis between renal arteriovenous malformations (AVM) and cancer may be a challenge, due to the similar clinical and imaging findings. Herein, we report the case of an 80-year-old male patient presenting gross hematuria, initially diagnosed and treated with embolization for a renal AVM. Due to the recurrence of hematuria and rapid progression and changes of the vascular lesion with detection also of an intralesional solid nodule, a radical nephrectomy was performed revealing the presence of a renal cell carcinoma (RCC)...

PURPOSE: This study is to investigate the effectiveness of Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse (ARFI) elastography in differentiating radiologically similar renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and oncocytoma in solid masses of the kidney. METHODS: The patients with solid renal mass histopathological diagnosed after excision or tru-cat biopsy who underwent a preoperative ARFI elastography of the lesion during a 4-year period were included in this study. Preoperative shear wave velocity (SWV) values were measured in all the lesions...

Radiology has seen tremendous evolution in the last few decades. At the same time, oncology has made great strides in diagnosing and treating cancer. Distant metastases of neoplasms are being encountered more often in light of longer patient survival due to better therapeutic strategies and diagnostic methods. Brain metastasis (BM) is a dismal manifestation of systemic cancer. In the present scenario, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET) are playing a big role in providing molecular information about cancer...

OBJECTIVES: To distinguish histological subtypes of renal tumors using radiomic features and machine learning (ML) based on multiphase computed tomography (CT). MATERIAL AND METHODS: Patients who underwent surgical treatment for renal tumors at two tertiary centers from 2012 to 2022 were included retrospectively. Preoperative arterial (corticomedullary) and venous (nephrogenic) phase CT scans from these centers, as well as from external imaging facilities, were manually segmented, and standardized radiomic features were extracted...

Concomitant renal cell carcinomas (RCC) of both native and allograft kidneys are extremely rare, and only a few cases have been reported in the available English literature. A particularly rare variant within the adult population is the Xp11.2 translocation/transcription factor E3 (TFE3)-rearranged RCC. Although few case reports of TFE3-rearranged RCC have been reported in children who underwent kidney transplantation (KT), no case of adults with TFE3-rearranged RCC following KT has been reported. Herein, we presented the radiological and pathological findings of a rare metachronous papillary RCC in the allograft kidney and TFE3-rearranged RCC in the native kidney...

BACKGROUND: Reliable biomarkers in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) remain elusive. While several markers have been shown to be associated with prognosis, and may aid in risk assessment, predictive biomarkers of response to immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have not been established. Previous studies have shown that a high pretreatment neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a negative prognostic factor in RCC. However, a clinically useful cut-off for the predictive and prognostic value of NLR has not been well defined...

80% of renal carcinomas (RC) are diagnosed incidentally by imaging. 2-4% of "sporadic" multifocality and 5-8% of hereditary syndromes are accepted, probably with underestimation. Multifocality, young age, familiar history, syndromic data, and certain histologies lead to suspicion of hereditary syndrome. Each tumor must be studied individually, with a multidisciplinary evaluation of the patient. Nephron-sparing therapeutic strategies and a radioprotective diagnostic approach are recommended. Relevant data for the radiologist in major RC hereditary syndromes are presented: von-Hippel-Lindau, Chromosome-3 translocation, BRCA-associated protein-1 mutation, RC associated with succinate dehydrogenase deficiency, PTEN, hereditary papillary RC, Papillary thyroid cancer- Papillary RC, Hereditary leiomyomatosis and RC, Birt-Hogg-Dubé, Tuberous sclerosis complex, Lynch, Xp11...

Renal endometriosis is a rare disorder of cases of urinary tract endometriosis. A 42-year-old woman presented at our outpatient department with an incidental painless mass on her left hypoplastic kidney revealed on an abdominal ultrasound. Abdominal and pelvic examinations revealed no abnormal findings. A computed tomography (CT) scan revealed an anterolateral slightly enhanced left renal mass that measured 1.2 cm in diameter. Furthermore, CT did not reveal any evidence of abdominal or thoracic metastasis. There are a few case reports in the literature of tumors in specimens from patients who underwent nephrectomy for hypoplastic kidneys, but discriminating between benign and malignant masses is difficult unless a nephrectomy is performed...

PURPOSE: Multiple lipid metabolism pathways alterations are associated with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) development and aggressiveness. In this study, we aim to develop a novel radiogenomics signature based on lipid metabolism-related genes (LMRGs) that may accurately predict ccRCC patients' survival. MATERIALS AND METHODS: First, 327 ccRCC were used to screen survival-related LMRGs and construct a gene signature based on The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database...

PURPOSE: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is the fourth most common metastatic tumour of the spine. RCC metastases are highly vascular and might cause life-threatening intraoperative bleeding. That is why preoperative embolisation is performed to reduce intraoperative blood loss. The aim of this study was to evaluate the procedural and clinical outcomes of preoperative embolisation of RCC metastases to the vertebral column. MATERIAL AND METHODS: In this single-centre retrospective study, data of 59 consecutive patients undergoing endovascular treatment prior to surgical resection were collected and evaluated...

PURPOSE: Endophytic renal cancer treatment is a challenge. Due to difficulties in endophytic tumor visualization during surgical extirpation, image-guided percutaneous cryoablation (PCA) is an attractive alternative. The minimally invasive nature of PCA makes it favorable for comorbid patients as well as patients in which surgery is contraindicated. Oncological outcomes and complications after PCA of endophytic biopsy-proven renal cell carcinoma (RCC) were reviewed in this study.
