Otosclerosis is a poorly understood clinical entity causing progressive conductive hearing loss. Here we present the first known evidence of otosclerosis demonstrating 99mTc-MDP uptake on bone scan. This presents an opportunity to explore the role of nuclear medicine imaging in early detection, staging, and even informing treatment and prognosis of this condition. Laryngoscope, 2024.

PURPOSE: We conducted a cost-effectiveness analysis in which we compared a preoperative [18 F]Fluorocholine PET/CT-based one-stop-shop imaging strategy with current best practice in which [18 F]Fluorocholine PET/CT is only recommended after negative or inconclusive [99m Tc]Tc-methoxy isobutyl isonitrile SPECT/CT for patients suffering from primary hyperparathyroidism. We investigated whether the one-stop-shop strategy performs as well as current best practice but at lower costs. METHODS: We developed a cohort-level state transition model to evaluate both imaging strategies respecting an intraoperative parathyroid hormone monitored treatment setting as well as a traditional treatment setting...

Monoclonal antibodies and antibody fragments have proven to be highly effective vectors for the delivery of radionuclides to target tissues for positron emission tomography (PET) and single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). However, the stochastic methods that have traditionally been used to attach radioisotopes to these biomolecules inevitably produce poorly defined and heterogeneous probes and can impair the ability of the immunoglobulins to bind their molecular targets. In response to this challenge, an array of innovative site-specific and site-selective bioconjugation strategies have been developed, and these approaches have repeatedly been shown to yield better-defined and more homogeneous radioimmunoconjugates with superior in vivo performance than their randomly modified progenitors...

METHODS: This prospective study included 92 patients who underwent BLVR with quantitative SPECT/CT study pre- and post-procedure between November 2018 and June 2023. The mean age was 70 years (range 56-85). with 51 males and 41 females. SPECT/CT quantified perfusion for each lobe, and the lowest counts/volume ratio determined the procedural target. Postprocedure SPECT/CT assessed total atelectasis and perfusion shifts. The 6-minute walk test and pulmonary function tests were compared pre- and post-BLVR...

BACKGROUND: This meta-analysis and systematic review assessed the diagnostic accuracy of lung SPECT compared with lung planar imaging in patients with suspected acute pulmonary embolism (PE) or chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A search of Medline, Embase, and Cochrane databases identified suitable articles published before October 2023. Meta-analyses were performed to determine the diagnostic accuracy of SPECT imaging modalities, including perfusion (Q) SPECT, ventilation (V)/Q SPECT, Q SPECT/CT, and V/Q SPECT/CT...

Prior regional Cerebral Blood Flow (rCBF) studies in Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) have been limited by small, highly selective, non-representative samples that have yielded variable and poorly replicated findings. The aim of this study was to compare rCBF measures in a large, more representative community sample of adults with MDD and healthy control participants. This is a cross-sectional, retrospective multi-site cohort study in which clinical data from 338 patients 18-65 years of age with a primary diagnosis of MDD were retrieved from a central database for 8 privately owned, private-pay outpatient psychiatric centers across the United States...

Due to the rapid progression and aggressive metastasis of breast cancer, its diagnosis and treatment remain a great challenge. The simultaneous inhibition of tumor growth and metastasis is necessary for breast cancer to obtain ideal therapeutic outcomes. We herein report the development of radioactive hybrid semiconducting polymer nanoparticles (SPNH ) for imaging-guided tri-modal therapy of breast cancer. Two semiconducting polymers are used to form SPNH with a diameter of around 60 nm via nano-coprecipitation and they are also labeled with iodine-131 (131 I) to enhance the imaging functions...

Transthyretin cardiac amyloidosis (ATTR-CA) is a condition characterized by extracellular deposition of misfolded transthyretin proteins in the myocardium and has been historically difficult to diagnose due to diverse clinical manifestations and nonspecific, variable electrocardiogram (ECG) and echocardiogram findings. Advancements in noninvasive cardiac imaging have led to significant increases in diagnoses of ATTR-CA. Once thought to be a rare condition, there is growing evidence to suggest that ATTR-CA is more prevalent than previously understood, prompting the need for early diagnosis and intervention...

Poststroke neuroinflammation exacerbates disease progression. [11 C]PK11195-positron emission tomography (PET) imaging has been used to visualize neuroinflammation; however, its short half-life of 20 min limits its clinical use. [123 I]CLINDE has a longer half-life (13h); therefore, [123 I]CLINDE-single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) imaging is potentially more practical than PK11195-PET imaging in clinical settings. The objectives of this study were to 1) validate neuroinflammation imaging using [123 I]CLINDE and 2) investigate the mechanisms underlying stroke in association with neuroinflammation using multimodal techniques, including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), gas-PET, and histological analysis, in a rat model of ischemic stroke, that is, permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion (pMCAo)...

This case report presents a rare case of infantile nystagmus syndrome (INS) in which the direction of infantile nystagmus (IN) was vertical. A 66-year-old woman was referred to our department for investigation of abnormal eye movements. She showed a disordered field of view with a homonymous hemianopia in the lower left quadrant and vertical gaze-evoked nystagmus, but there were no other abnormal neurological findings. She did not complain of an oscillopsia. Imaging revealed that the cause of hemianopia was atrophy and low cerebral blood flow in the right occipital lobe...

Despite being time-consuming, SPECT/CT data is necessary for accurate dosimetry in patient-specific radiopharmaceutical therapy. We investigated how reducing the frame duration (FD) during SPECT acquisition can simplify the dosimetry workflow for [177 Lu]Lu-PSMA radioligand therapy (RLT). We aimed to determine the impact of shortened acquisition times on dosimetric precision.
