AIM: This cross-sectional study evaluated vaginal health and hygiene practices among reproductive and perimenopausal women in Japan using an online-based questionnaire. METHODS: The questionnaire included 11 well-structured questions concerning vulvovaginal symptoms and hygiene care practices. Participants' responses were anonymized and analyzed descriptively. The relationships of age, family income, occupation, and childbearing with women's concerns regarding vaginal or vulvar problems were analyzed by chi-square tests...

AIM: To analyze the associations between infertility or dietary selenium intake and depressive symptoms as well as the role of selenium intake on the association between infertility and depressive symptoms in women. METHODS: This study retrieved the data of 4949 women from National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) database. Univariable and multivariable weighted logistic regression analyses were applied to assess the associations of selenium intake or infertility with the risk of depressive symptoms as well as the regulation of selenium intake on the risk of depressive symptoms related to infertility...

Primary leiomyosarcoma of the fallopian tube (PLFT) is an extremely rare gynecological malignancy that has only been described in case reports. Fertility-sparing treatment for PLFT has not been reported previously. A 24-year-old nulligravida woman was diagnosed with stage IC1 PLFT in the right fallopian tube after experiencing right lower quadrant pain for 2 weeks. She underwent laparoscopic right salpingectomy to preserve fertility followed by adjuvant chemotherapy with gemcitabine/docetaxel. She subsequently became pregnant spontaneously, delivering a term baby 27 months after treatment...

AIM: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder characterized by menstrual irregularities, androgen excess, and polycystic ovarian morphology, but its pathogenesis remains largely unknown. This review focuses on how androgen excess influences the molecular basis of energy metabolism, mitochondrial function, and mitophagy in granulosa cells and oocytes, summarizes our current understanding of the pathogenesis of PCOS, and discuss perspectives on future research directions...

OBJECTIVE: This study aims to investigate the effect of physical activity, body mass index (BMI), and levels of prostaglandins (PGF2α) urine on the occurrence of dysmenorrhea in adolescents. METHODS: A total of 128 female students included in the study. The study was conducted from January to March 2023 using a cross-sectional design. This study utilized the Menstrual Symptom Questionnaire (MSQ) and gynecological examination with ultrasonography. The urinary prostaglandin (PGF2α) was measured using the enzyme linked immuno sorbent assay (ELISA)...

The follicular microenvironment is crucial for normal ovarian function, and intra-ovarian factors, in coordination with gonadotropins, contribute to its regulation. Recent research has revealed that the accumulation of senescent cells worsens the adverse environment of various tissues and plays critical roles in chronological aging and various pathological conditions. Cellular senescence involves cell-cycle arrest, a senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP), macromolecular damage, and dysmetabolism...

INTRODUCTION: Preeclampsia (PE) is a major maternal and fetal threat. Previous risk-scoring methods in guidelines lacked precision. The Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) proposed a first-trimester PE screening model using Bayes' theorem. PE PREDICTION MODEL: FMF prediction model combines maternal characteristics and medical/obstetrical history to determine prior risk and further incorporate maternal blood pressure, maternal serum biomarkers, and uterine Doppler pulsatility index expressed as multiples of the median (MoM) to estimate posterior risk...

There have been no reported cases of neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) of the cervix with pagetoid spread (Pag-S). A 44-year-old woman came to our department because of abnormal cytology that persisted immediately after a radical hysterectomy for NEC of the cervix. A mapping biopsy in a large area from the vaginal wall to the vulva revealed that synaptophysin/Ki-67-positive tumor cells were scattered within the epithelium in multiple areas, suggesting a wide Pag-S of NEC. Because tumor cells were found beyond the vaginal wall, the anterior pelvic exenteration was performed...
