BACKGROUND: We aimed to evaluate the outcomes of patients reirradiated with stereotactic body radiotherapy for recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma (r-NPC) in our hospital. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 10 patients with r-NPC previously irradiated with definitive radiotherapy. Local recurrences were irradiated with a dose of 25 to 50 Gy (median: 26.25 Gy) in 3 to 5 fractions (fr) (median: 5 fr). The survival outcomes calculated from the time of recurrence diagnosis were obtained using Kaplan-Meier analysis and compared with the log-rank test...

BACKGROUND: Many new morphological variants of urothelial carcinoma of urinary bladder have been described in the literature, plasmacytoid/signet ring cell/diffuse variant being one of the rare amongst these. Till date, no case series has been reported from India, describing this variant. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the clinicopathological data of 14 patients diagnosed at our center with plasmacytoid urothelial carcinoma. RESULTS: Seven cases (50%) were pure forms while the remaining 50% of cases had a concurrent conventional urothelial carcinoma component...

Atypical choroid plexus papilloma is classified as WHO (World Health Organization) Grade II subtype of choroid plexus tumor, and it has intermediate pathological features, prognosis, and clinical outcome rates between choroid plexus papilloma and choroid plexus carcinoma. These tumors are more common in children compared with adults and are usually located in the lateral ventricles. We present a case of an adult with atypical choroid plexus papilloma located in the infratentorial region. A 41-year-old woman underwent evaluation for headache and dull aching neck pain...

Concerning its importance, the present study aims to investigate spiritual coping strategies and its relationship with physical, anxiety, and depression symptoms of patients with cancer who are referred to the oncologic ward. METHOD: This was a descriptive-correlative study that 159 patients with cancer participated in the study...

BACKGROUND: Multiple myeloma remains an incurable disease, with the majority of patients relapsing after autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT). After relapse, second transplant remains one of the therapeutic options, along with novel agents. METHODS: We reviewed the data of our patients who underwent ASCT for myeloma (N = 202) over the last two decades (2004-2019). Of these, 12 patients underwent a second transplant. RESULTS: Out of 12 patients, nine underwent second autologous stem cell transplant, whereas three received an allogeneic stem cell transplantation (Allo-SCT)...

BACKGROUND: Most patients with lung cancer are diagnosed at advanced stages of the disease, where chemotherapy plays an important role. This prospective study was conducted to determine the impact of palliative chemotherapy on quality of life (QOL) in advanced-stage lung cancer patients. METHODS: QOL in lung cancer out-patients was assessed at diagnosis and end of treatment using the EORTC QLQ-C30 questionnaire. Changes in mean QOL scores were calculated. The correlation between patients' tumor response and change in QOL scores was also studied...

BACKGROUND: Whole-body diffusion-weighted imaging (WB-DWI) is commonly used for the detection of multiple myeloma (MM). Comparative data on the efficiency of WB-DWI compared with F-18 fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography (18 F-FDG PET/CT) to detect MM is limited. METHODS: This was a retrospective, single-center study of 22 patients with MM enrolled from January 2018 to December 2019. All patients underwent WB-DWI and 18 F-FDG PET/CT...

Glioblastoma (GBM) is one of the most aggressive tumors in the brain with high mortality worldwide. Despite recent advances in therapeutic strategies, the survival rate remains low in patients with GBM. The pathogenesis of GBM is a very complicated process involving various genetic mutations affecting several oncogenic signaling pathways like Wnt/β-catenin axis. Overactivation of the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway is associated with decreased survival and poor prognosis in patients with GBM. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) were shown to play important roles in the regulation of cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and tumorigenesis by modulating the expression of their target genes...

BACKGROUND: Literature on Post mastectomy pain in the Indian population is scarce. Most literature is from the West. The current study aimed to identify the incidence of post-mastectomy pain syndrome (PMPS), pain severity, and its impact on quality of life in Indian patients. METHOD: Prospective observational study of 120 women undergoing mastectomy between March and December 2017, followed until 6 months after surgery. The Brief Pain Inventory (BPI) questionnaire and the quality of life questionnaire (QLQ) by the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) and known as (EORTC-QLQ 30) were used to identify the impact on function and quality of life...

BACKGROUND: Screening for breast cancer utilizing mammography is associated with reduced advanced cancer diagnosis and reduced breast cancer mortality. We aimed to assess the lifetime history of breast cancer screening utilization for Jordanian women aged 40 and 49 years and determinants of this utilization. METHODS: This paper reports the analyzed data from the seventh cycle of the Jordan Population and Family Health Survey (JPFHS). For this study, the analysis was confined to 4486 women aged between 40 and 49 years at the time of data collection who reported their nationality as Jordanian...

BACKGROUND: Currently, recommended heart dose constraints are difficult to meet in whole-breast irradiation (WBI) for left-sided breast cancer patients, who cannot be treated with the deep inspiration breath hold. We performed a radiotherapy planning study to establish if the use of intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) or volumetric-modulated arc therapy (VMAT) allows for better sparing of the heart and its subvolumes than the three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT), and how these attempts affect the dose delivered to the other organs...

Nasal chondromas and nasal atypical cartilaginous tumors (or chondrosarcoma grade 1) are very rare chondrogenic tumors. Approximately 150 cases of nasal chondroma and fewer than 50 cases of nasal atypical cartilaginous tumors have been described. We reported a case with nasal chondroma in the right ethmoid area and a case with a nasal atypical cartilaginous tumor of the anterior septum. No chondroma recurrence was noted for 17 years after endoscopic resection. Recurrence was noted for the nasal atypical cartilaginous tumor 36 months after wide surgical excision via midfacial degloving...

BACKGROUND: Tumor size is an independent predictor of lymph node metastasis and survival in the endometrioid type endometrial adenocarcinoma (EC). However, some of the ECs tend to grow towards the cavity in the polypoid pattern, which can reach very large sizes. In this study, we aimed to analyze the association of growing in the polypoid pattern of the tumor with the proportion of lymph node metastasis and extrauterine tumor spread. METHODS: Four hundred seven patients were analyzed retrospectively...
