Formation of the ovarian endometrioma consists of implantation, invagination of the ovarian cortex, and adhesion formation. Progression is characterized by repeated injury and repair with degenerative changes. Already with a partially deprived ovarian reserve, resulting from the disease, surgical treatment carries a potential risk of further follicular deprivation. Surgery should therefore be performed with microsurgical precision by experienced hands. Early treatment can possibly prevent further progression...

BACKGROUND: Incomplete healing of uterine scar after cesarean has been associated with adverse gynecological and obstetrical outcomes. Several studies reported that uterine closure at cesarean influences the healing of uterine scar and the risk of uterine rupture at subsequent pregnancies: the commonly used locked single-layer suture including the decidua being associated with a 4-fold increased risk of uterine rupture. However, data from randomized trials are lacking. OBJECTIVE: We sought to evaluate the impact of 3 techniques of uterine closure after cesarean delivery on uterine scar healing...

OBJECTIVES: To assess and compare the ovarian reserve in patients with different-sized endometriomas undergoing cystectomy or ablative surgery in order to determine the best surgical approach to safeguard healthy ovarian tissue. STUDY DESIGN: Prospective randomized study on 48 patients with unilateral single ovarian endometriomas. Patients were allocated into two groups based on endometrioma size: <5cm (n=26, Group A, small endometriomas) and ≥5cm (n=22, Group B, large endometriomas)...

OBJECTIVE: Burnout is specific to the work domain and in physicians is indicative of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization in relationships with coworkers and detachment from patients, and a sense of inadequacy or low personal accomplishment. The purpose of this study was to determine the burnout rate among gynecologic oncologists and evaluate other personal, professional, and psychosocial factors associated with this condition. STUDY DESIGN: This study used a cross-sectional design...

Human papillomavirus (HPV) is associated with the development of anogenital cancer (including cervical, vaginal, vulvar, penile, and anal), oropharyngeal cancer, and genital warts. Human papillomavirus vaccination can significantly reduce the incidence of anogenital cancer and genital warts. Despite the benefits of HPV vaccines, only approximately one third of girls in the recommended age group have received all three vaccines. Compared with other vaccines recommended in the same age bracket, HPV vaccination rates in the United States are unacceptably low...

OBJECTIVES: Advances in laparoscopy have demonstrated that supraumbilical primary ports can be desirable in complex cases with large masses. This study evaluated distances to vital retroperitoneal vasculature that were encountered with 45- and 90-degree angle entry from the umbilicus and 2 commonly described supraumbilical entry points at 3 and 5 cm cephalad from the umbilicus. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective analysis of computed tomography scans of the abdomen and pelvis from 100 randomly selected women who were 18-50 years old with normal anatomy was performed...
