Lipomas are frequently characterized by rearrangements resulting in the fusion of the HMGA2 gene (12q14.3) with a variety of partners. Chromosome band 9p22 rearrangements occur in about 1% of lipomas. We report here the molecular cytogenetic analysis of five cases of lipoma with a 9p22 aberration, including the first cytogenetic analysis of a colonic lipoma. Three out of the five cases showed a rearrangement of NFIB at 9p22.3. The NFIB rearrangement involved a fusion with HMGA2 in two cases. We have identified an in-frame fusion of the first three exons of HMGA2 with exon 6 of MSRB3 (12q14...

Colonic lipoma is a rare benign tumor infrequently met in clinical practice. We report a case of symptomatic lipoma of the ascending colon in a 61-year-old woman. Diagnosis was suspected on CT scan. Colotomy with lipectomy was performed. The diagnosis was confirmed by histological examination. Reviewing the literature and combining with our experience, we discuss the clinical features, diagnosis and treatment of this uncommon disease.

Intussusception is much more common in children than in adults. Unlike in children, intussusception in adults is associated with an identifiable etiology in 90 per cent of cases. Lipomas are the second most common benign tumors of the colon. Small lipomas are usually asymptomatic and are found incidentally during colonoscopy. Giant lipomas are uncommon causes for colonic intussusception. This usually presents as abdominal pain and vomiting and less commonly as diarrhea. Computed tomography is an excellent method to diagnose giant colonic lipomas, by showing a well demarcated, round, low-attenuated lesion in the lumen of the colon...

Colonic lipomas are infrequent lesions, yet they are the second most common benign lesions of the colon after benign adenomatous polyps. Their treatment ranges from observation to segmental colectomy and has been a matter of debate since Bauer first reported them in 1757. With the advent of new technologies, therapeutic options now include observation, endoscopic removal, laparoscopic removal, and traditional open surgery. We present a case of colonic lipoma presenting with indeterminate symptomatology, its workup, treatment outcome, and a review of the current literature...

Colon lipoma is remarkably rare in clinical practice. We reported a case of ascending colon lipoma in an 83-year-old woman. She was asymptomatic with a lipoma of 35 mm x 30 mm x 24 mm in size which was found by routine colonoscopy. Right hemicolectomy was performed uneventfully. The diagnosis was made by histological examination. Reviewing the literature and combining with our experience, we discussed the clinical features, diagnosis and treatment of this uncommon disease.

Colonic lipomas are a rare source of massive lower gastrointestinal bleeding requiring operative intervention. A case of massive hemorrhage from cecal lipomatosis is presented. The methods of preoperative diagnosis and treatment are discussed.
