BACKGROUND: The purpose of this scoping review was to review the literature on healthcare provider provision of anti-D prophylaxis to RhD negative pregnant women in appropriate clinical situations in various healthcare settings. METHODS: A scoping review framework was used to structure the process. The following databases were searched: CINAHL (EBSCO), EBM Reviews (OvidSP), Embase (OvidSP), Medline (OvidSP), and Web of Science (ISI). In addition, hand searching of article references was conducted...

OBJECTIVES: To assess the performance of middle cerebral artery peak systolic velocity (MCA-PSV) and of the expected daily decrease in fetal hemoglobin in determining the timing of serial in-utero transfusions (IUT) in red-cell alloimmunization. METHODS: This was a retrospective study of a continuous series of suspected anemic fetuses undergoing IUT between June 2003 and December 2012. Doppler measurement of MCA-PSV and pre- and post-transfusion hemoglobin levels were recorded at the time of the first, second and third IUT...

Incompatibility of red cell and platelet antigens can lead to maternal alloimmunization causing hemolytic disease of the fetus & newborn and fetal neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia respectively. As the molecular background of these polymorphisms emerged, prenatal testing using initially fetal DNA obtained from invasively obtained amniotic fluid or chorionic villus was implemented. This evolved into testing using maternal plasma as source of fetal DNA, and this is in routine use as a safe non-invasive diagnostic that has no risk to the fetus of alloimmunization or spontaneous miscarriage...
