Intrasubstance anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in children and adolescents were once considered rare occurrences, with tibial eminence avulsion fractures generally regarded as the pediatric ACL injury equivalent. However, with increased single-sport focus, less free play, and year-round training at younger ages, intrasubstance ACL injuries in children and adolescents are being diagnosed with increased frequency. As in the adult, a knee devoid of ligamentous stability predisposes the pediatric patient to meniscal and chondral injuries and early degenerative changes...

PURPOSE: To evaluate the mid-to long-term results of a randomized controlled trial of single-bundle (SB) versus double-bundle (DB) anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction using a semitendinosus tendon. METHODS: Seventy-eight patients who underwent primary ACL reconstruction with an autologous semitendinosus tendon were prospectively randomized into 2 groups: SB reconstruction (n = 39) and DB reconstruction (n = 39). In both groups, grafts were fixed at 30° of flexion with a total tension of 80 N...

PURPOSE: The purpose of our study was to investigate the relation between posterior tibial slope and anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) rupture in patients with open physes. METHODS: A retrospective case-control study was performed comparing skeletally immature patients with an ACL rupture with an age-matched control group. Posterior tibial slope was measured on plain lateral radiographs in both groups by blinded readers, at 2 separate time intervals, using a previously examined and accepted technique...
