[Sonography of enlarged cervical lymph nodes].

In this article, the current role of ultrasonography in the evaluation of enlarged lymph nodes of the neck is reviewed with particular regard to the identification of malignant changes. Morphological changes in malignant lymph node involvement are discussed. The differentiation of benign and malignant changes is based mainly on criteria like size, shape, capsule penetration and vessel infiltration. New methods like color Doppler sonography and computer-aided tissue characterization will be discussed.
