Factors influencing surgical wound healing and their anesthetic implications.

Wound healing, a complex physiological process, begins within seconds of assault. Wounds, whether traumatic or surgically produced, demand optimal performance from all body systems for proper healing. Healing is delayed or impossible when the body cannot respond adequately due to disease, infection, or altered metabolic response. The anesthesia team plays an integral part in establishing successful wound healing.
