Drug Resistance in Protozoan Parasites: An Incessant Wrestle for Survival.

Nowadays, drug resistance in parasites is considered to be one of the foremost concerns of health and disease management. It is interconnected around the world and undermining effectiveness of health of millions of people and threatens to grow worse. Unfortunately, it doesn't receive serious attention from every corner of the society. So, drug resistance in parasites gradually complicating and challenging the treatment processes of parasitic diseases. In this context, we have dedicated ourselves to review drug resistance incidences in Plasmodium, Leishmania, Trypanosoma, Entamoeba and Toxoplasma gondii. Moreover, role of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters in drug resistance phenomenon is essential in understanding the control route of the parasitic diseases. Therefore, we also have focused on the involvement of ABC transporters in the drug resistance incident which will be a superior approach to find ways for the better regulation of diseases caused by the parasitic infection.
