Relationship of atherogenic index of plasma and mean platelet volume with ejection fraction in ischemic and nonischemic heart failure.

Biomarkers in Medicine 2019 Februrary
AIM: Our aim was to evaluate the relationship and diagnostic value of atherogenic index of plasma (AIP) and mean platelet volume (MPV) for heart failure (HF) and ejection fraction (EF).

MATERIALS AND METHODS: In the present study, AIP and MPV were studied in 114 stable HF patients (48 ischemic [42.1%], 66 nonischemic [57.9%]) and 69 controls.

RESULTS: Mean AIP and MPV were significantly higher in HF compared with controls (p = 0.002; p = 0.03). In multivariate analysis, AIP and MPV were independently associated with EF. In receiver-operating characteristics (ROC) curve analysis both of them had optimal diagnostic value for HF.

CONCLUSION: AIP and MPV regardless of ischemic etiology, were significantly higher in HF compared with controls. Both AIP and MPV are independent predictors of EF and have cut-off values for diagnosis of HF.
