Role of Cataract Surgery in the Management of Glaucoma.

A leading cause of blindness, glaucoma is estimated to affect 60.5 million people worldwide, with a projected increase to 79.6 million by 2020. Cataract surgery is the most commonly performed ophthalmic surgery, with the anticipated number of people requiring cataract surgery worldwide expected to rise to 30.1 million by the year 2020, a 50% increase from 2000. Cataract and glaucoma are both more prevalent among the elderly population and commonly coexist.
