Nurses hope the Paralympic Games in London are helping to challenge patronising ideas about disability. An event which began as an archery competition for war veterans at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in 1948 has grown into a huge showcase for sport at the highest level, focusing on athletes, not their disabilities.
