[Isolated sphenoid sinus disease (an analysis of 18 cases)].

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the diagnosis and reasonable treatment for the disease of isolated sphenoid sinus.

METHOD: Eighteen cases with disease of isolated sphenoid sinus who undergone endoscopic sinus surgery were studied.

RESULT: Fifteen cases with sphenoid sinusitis(including 2 cases with acute inflammation, 3 cases with chronic inflammation, 8 cases with cyst, 2 cases with mycosis), 3 cases with malignant tumor. 18 cases were cured by nasal endoscopy surgery without complication.

CONCLUSION: Headache is the optima to occurrence of manifestation in patients with isolated sphenoid sinus disease. Besides, there are other symptoms including the lesion of eyesight, bloody nasal discharge and cranial nerve paralysis. CT scan, MRI and nasal endoscopy provide effective method for its diagnosis. In a word, nasal endoscopy surgery is a safe and convenient for the disease of isolated sphenoid sinus.
