[Distension media in hysteroscopy--use and complications].

OBJECTIVE: Review of distending media used in hysteroscopic surgery.

TYPE OF STUDY: Overview.

SETTING: Institute for the Care of Mother and Child, Prague.

METHODS: Analysis of data from the literature.

RESULTS: The author reviewed the use of distending media in hysteroscopic surgery with most serious complication--fluid overload syndrome.

CONCLUSION: Fluid overload syndromee is a very dangerous and often underestimated complication during hysteroscopic surgery which needs immediate and appropriate management.
