Differentiating between benign and malignant sacral tumors is crucial for determining appropriate treatment options. This study aims to develop two benchmark fusion models and a deep learning radiomic nomogram (DLRN) capable of distinguishing between benign and malignant sacral tumors using multiple imaging modalities. We reviewed axial T2-weighted imaging (T2WI) and non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT) of 134 patients pathologically confirmed as sacral tumors. The two benchmark fusion models were developed using fusion deep learning (DL) features and fusion classical machine learning (CML) features from multiple imaging modalities, employing logistic regression, K-nearest neighbor classification, and extremely randomized trees...

The first step toward advancing our understanding of complex networks involves determining their connectivity structures from the time series data. These networks are often high-dimensional, and in practice, only a limited amount of data can be collected. In this work, we formulate the network inference task as a bilinear optimization problem and propose an iterative algorithm with sequential initialization to solve this bilinear program. We demonstrate the scalability of our approach to network size and its robustness against measurement noise, hyper-parameter variation, and deviations from the network model...

Flexible pressure sensors have attracted great interest as they play an important role in various fields such as health monitoring and human-machine interactions. The design of the pressure sensors still faces challenges in achieving a high sensitivity for a wide sensing range, and the interference of water restricts the applications of the sensors. Herein, we developed a graphene-polydimethylsiloxane film combining a hierarchical surface with nanowrinkles on it and a hollow structure. The microstructure design of the composite can be facilely controlled to improve the sensing and hydrophobic performance by tailoring the microsphere building units...

Electrospinning has been applied to produce ceramic fibers using sol gel-based spinning solutions consisting of ceramic precursors, a solvent, and a polymer to control the viscosity of the solution. However, the addition of polymers to the spinning solution makes the process more complex, increases the processing time, and results in porous mechanically weak ceramic fibers. Herein, we develop a coelectrospinning technique, where a nonspinnable sol (<10 mPa s) consisting of only the ceramic precursor(s) and solvent(s) is encapsulated inside a polymeric shell, forming core-shell precursor fibers that are further calcined into ceramic fibers with reduced porosity, decreased surface defects, uniform crystal packing, and controlled diameters...

Geological formations have superior wickability and support the absorption of water and oils into narrow spaces of Earth's crust without external assistance. In this study, we present speleothem inspired heterogeneous porous and wicked copper (Cu)/nickel (Ni) interfaces for enhanced nucleate boiling of water/ethanol mixtures for energy-efficient separation processes. The incorporation of Ni strands within the copper particle matrix significantly enhanced heat transfer. Compared to plain copper, the Cu/Ni speleothem surfaces exhibited a 61% increase in the heat transfer coefficient for water/ethanol mixtures and a 332% increase for water, with a 58% faster onset of nucleate boiling...

In adults, 68Ga-FAP inhibitor (68Ga-FAPI) PET/CT outperforms 68Ga-radiolabeled somatostatin analog peptides (68Ga PET/CT) and 18F-FDG PET/CT in detecting thyroid lesions. This is the case of a 13-year-old boy newly diagnosed with medullary thyroid cancer with high calcitonin level. 68Ga PET/CT revealed the presence of only a primary thyroid lesion. Proven to be superior in detecting metastasis, 68Ga-FAPI PET/CT was performed. The results came out negative for primary and potential metastatic lesions. This case sheds shed light on false-negatives reported in 68Ga-FAPI PET/CT scans in pediatric patients, emphasizing the need for alternate radiotracers when a negative study is met...

Traditionally, direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimations under near- and far-field scenarios are treated as independent tasks based on the corresponding acoustic model, hence necessitating a proper soundfield detector as an upstream processing tool, whereas there may not be a distinct boundary between different soundfield types, especially the mixed-field scenarios where both near- and far-field sources coexist simultaneously. To handle this issue, this article investigates a multisource DOA estimator that equally localizes multiple near-, far-, and mixed-field sources, not requiring any specialized adjustments...

Flow diversion is a unique interventional tool with evolving roles in the treatment of intracranial aneurysms.1 Although flow diversion strategies can be highly effective in appropriately selected patients, their off-label use is controversial. As flow diversion indications have expanded, so has the incidence of treatment failure, resulting in an evolving subgroup of patients with atypical lesions that require complex salvage strategies, such as cerebrovascular bypass.2,3 We report a residual dolichoectatic superior cerebellar artery aneurysm in which flow diversion failed, which was treated through superficial temporal artery to superior cerebellar artery bypass...
