Management of chemotherapies is a strategic issue for european healthcare. Dose-banding enables to reduce waiting time of patients in day care units and drug wastage. The aim of this study was to assess the stability of 5-Fluorouracile (5-FU) at standardised rounded doses of 4 and 5 g in MyFuser® portable infusion pump for in-advance preparation. Ten MyFuser® (4 and 5 gr 5-FU added to NaCl 0.9%) were prepared under aseptic conditions and stored at room temperature (23 ± 2 °C) for 28 days then at 30 °C for three days...

More than 30 viral and subviral pathogens infect apple (Malus domestica, an important fruit crop in China) trees and rootstocks, posing a threat to its production. With advances in diagnostic technologies, new viruses including apple rubbery wood virus 1 (ARWV-1), apple rubbery wood virus 2 (ARWV-2), apple luteovirus 1 (ALV), and citrus virus A (CiVA) have been detected (Beatriz et al. 2018; Rott et al. 2018; Hu et al. 2021). ARWV-1 (family Phenuiviridae) is a negative-sense single-stranded RNA virus with three RNA segments (large [L], medium [M], and small [S])...

Citrus impietratura disease (CID) is a graft transmissible, virus-like disease observed in old-line citrus trees; its characteristic symptom is the appearance of gum in the albedo of the affected fruits. To identify the causal agent of the disease, high throughput sequencing (HTS) was performed on symptomatic orange fruits. The analysis of the obtained data revealed in all samples, mixed infections of viroids commonly found in citrus trees together with the recently described citrus virus A (CiVA). Examination of additional symptomatic fruits with conventional RT-PCRs led to the identification of a single CiVA infection in one tree, which was verified by HTS...

Centralized intravenous admixture service (CIVAS) centres, which are pharmaceutical departments found in Chinese hospitals, provide high-quality intravenous fluids and pharmaceutical services for patients, and errors in their working procedures can lead to adverse consequences. Pharmacists, the primary CIVAS centre personnel, play a role in risk control; however, to date, the effect of pharmacists' participation in risk management has not been reported. The main aim of this study was to evaluate the pharmacist's role in risk control and evaluate its impact...

BACKGROUND: In anesthesia, additive drug interactions are used for reducing dose and dose-dependent side-effects. The combination of propofol with volatile anesthetics is rather unusual but might have advantages compared to the single use regarding PONV, time to extubation, movement during surgery and postoperative pain perception. METHODS: We searched PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and CENTRAL for relevant studies comparing combined intravenous volatile anesthesia with total intravenous or balanced anesthesia...

Among the various key networks in the human body, the nervous system occupies central importance. The debilitating effects of spinal cord injuries (SCI) impact a significant number of people throughout the world, and to date, there is no satisfactory method to treat them. In this paper, we review the major treatment techniques for SCI that include promising solutions based on information and communication technology (ICT) and identify the key characteristics of such systems. We then introduce two novel ICT-based treatment approaches for SCI...

There is a growing need for flexible methods for the analysis of large-scale functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data for the estimation of global signatures that summarize the population while preserving individual-specific traits. Independent vector analysis (IVA) is a data-driven method that jointly estimates global spatio-temporal patterns from multi-subject fMRI data, and effectively preserves subject variability. However, as we show, IVA performance is negatively affected when the number of datasets and components increases especially when there is low component correlation across the datasets...

Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) is a serious condition that can result in loss of motor and sensory functions by disrupting communication among neurons, i.e., neuro-spike communication. Future information and communication technology (ICT) based treatment techniques for SCI are expected to rely on nano networks, deployed inside the body. In this respect, modeling neuro-spike communication channels in the spinal cord and revealing the relationship between channel metrics and SCI are required to realize these treatment techniques and diagnosis tools such as replacement neural implants, high-performance diagnosis tools, which are based on ICT metrics instead of large medical data...

This work aims to compare the ultrasonic inspection of 9%Ni steel joints welded with the Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) process and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) process. These are the two most widely used processes used to weld pipes for CO2 injection units for floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) in the Brazilian oil and gas industry. The SMAW equipment is simple and portable, which is convenient for the FPSO; however, the GMAW process has the advantage of welding with high productivity. In this study we performed a numerical simulation using the software CIVA, 11th version, to analyze the behavior of ultrasonic longitudinal wave beams through GMAW and SMAW dissimilar weld joints...

Operative experience for the contemporary trainee has become exceedingly more challenging in the setting of more stringent hospital regulations. Surgical training is thus shifting toward more self-directed, independent learning to maximize operative opportunities as they become available; yet, this can prove difficult for complex surgeries like craniofacial procedures. The intricate anatomy and fine reconstructive techniques employed cannot be readily depicted onto a two-dimensional page. To address this educational gap, the Craniofacial Interactive Virtual Assistant-Pro Edition (CIVA-Pro) was developed as a web-based surgical simulator to aid learners with conceptualizing the surgical principles utilized in these cases...
