OBJECTIVES: This review article provides an updated review of a relatively common pathology with various manifestations. Superficial venous diseases (SVD) are a broad spectrum of venous vascular disease that predominantly affects the body's lower extremities. The most serious manifestation of this disease includes varicose veins, chronic venous insufficiency, stasis dermatitis, venous ulcers, superficial venous thrombosis, reticular veins, and spider telangiectasias. METHODS: The anatomy, pathophysiology, and risk factors of SVD were discussed during this review...

BACKGROUND: Lipedema is a chronic inflammatory subcutaneous adipose-rich connective tissue disease affecting millions of women worldwide. Disproportionate fat accumulation on the extremities characterized by heaviness, tenderness, and swelling can affect function, mobility, and quality of life. Treatments include conservative measures and lipedema reduction surgery (LRS). Here, we report lipedema comorbidities and surgical techniques, outcomes measures, and complications after LRS. METHODS: This is a single outpatient clinic retrospective chart review case series of comorbidities and complications in 189 women with lipedema...

A hybrid treatment approach was used to successfully manage bilateral varicose veins in a 50-year-old female patient. The patient had venous insufficiency and presented with pain, swelling, and discoloration in her legs. The treatment plan consisted of two sessions of endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) to treat venous reflux, followed by two phlebectomies for residual bulging varicose veins. After a three-month follow-up, an ultrasound evaluation showed no venous reflux, indicating successful treatment. However, small reticular and spider veins remained, so the patient underwent four sessions of foam sclerotherapy using polidocanol as the sclerosant...

BACKGROUND: A new dual-wavelength, high-energy, solid-state laser incorporating both 532 and 1064 nm wavelengths was developed with cryogen spray cooling and the unique ability to deliver three types of pulse structures including single pulses of a specific pulse-duration or pulses composed of a train of subpulses in the millisecond or microsecond domain with an intervening delay over the selected pulse-duration. We investigate the efficacy of this laser using all three pulse structures and the 532 nm wavelength for treating rosacea...

Varicose veins are part of the spectrum of chronic venous disease and include spider telangiectasias, reticular veins, and true varicosities. It may present without advanced signs of chronic venous insufficiency. Sclerotherapy is a treatment choice for patients with varicose veins of lower extremity; it uses the intravenous injection of chemical drugs to achieve the goal of inflammatory occlusion. Phlebectomy, a minimally invasive procedure usually used for higher diameter of varicose veins at the surface of the skin...

OBJECTIVES: A clinical study to investigate the effectiveness of pulsed dye laser (PDL) versus Nd:YAG laser in the treatment of telangiectasias, spider veins and cherry angiomas. Dynamic optical coherence tomography (D-OCT) was introduced as an innovative follow-up tool for evaluation of blood flow within superficial vessels and to allow visualization of morphological changes of the vasculature in vivo. The final aim of this study was to demonstrate a possible treatment benefit comparing both laser types...

BACKGROUND: Hyperammonemia and hepatic encephalopathy are common in patients with portosystemic shunts. Surgical shunt occlusion has been standard treatment, although recently the less invasive balloon-occluded retrograde transvenous obliteration (B-RTO) has gained increasing attention. Thus far, there have been no reports on the treatment of portosystemic shunts with B-RTO in patients aged over 90 years. In this study, we present a case of hepatic encephalopathy caused by shunting of the left common iliac and inferior mesenteric veins, successfully treated with B-RTO...

Modern nanotechnology has been credited as one of the most significant inventions of the 21st century. Many agricultural disciplines have been affected by nanotechnology in agriculture. Pest control based on natural compounds needs to be enhanced, and enhancing plant growth under climate change conditions, with increasing periods of drought in many countries, is a very vital aim. Thus, the effect of curcumin nanoparticles (Cu-NPs) and glycyrrhizic acid nanoparticles (GA-NPs) as a foliar application under water deficit on natural infestation with the two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae , plant growth and yield, anatomical and chemical parameters were investigated during this study...

This guideline aims to improve the efficiency and safety of lasers and optical radiation sources with similar effects (especially IPL). Laser therapy of skin lesions with an increased amount of melanocytes should be performed with caution. Laser treatment of pigmented melanocytic nevi is not recommended. The guideline contains recommendations regarding the treatment of lentigines and café-au-lait spots, non-pigmented dermal nevi, Becker nevus, nevus of Ota/Hori/Ito and melasma. Further recommendations focus on the treatment of skin lesions without an increased amount of melanocytes (ephelides, postinflammatory hyperpigmentation including berloque dermatitis, seborrheic keratoses, traumatic/decorative tattoos and metallic deposits), hypopigmentation (vitiligo), benign non-pigmented neoplasms (fibrous papule of the nose, nevus sebaceus, epidermal nevus, neurofibroma, sebaceous gland hyperplasia, syringoma, xanthelasma palpebrarum), inflammatory dermatoses (acne papulopustulosa/conglobata, acne inversa, granuloma faciale, lichen sclerosus, lupus erythematosus, psoriasis vulgaris, rosacea, rhinophyma), wrinkles/dermatochalasis/striae, hypertrichosis, scars (atrophic, hypertrophic; keloids, burn/scald scars), laser-assisted skin healing, onychomycosis, precancerous lesions and malignant tumors (actinic keratoses/field cancerization, cheilitis actinica, basal cell carcinoma), vascular skin lesions (angiokeratoma, angioma, hemangioma, malformation, spider veins, granuloma telangiectaticum (pyogenic granuloma), rubeosis (erythrosis interfollicularis colli, ulerythema ophryogenes), nevus flammeus, telangiectasias and Osler's disease (hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia) and viral skin lesions (condylomata acuminata, mollusca contagiosa, verrucae planae juveniles/vulgares/ verrucae palmares et plantares)...

BACKGROUND: Telangiectasias (spider veins) and reticular veins on the lower limbs are very common, increase with age, and have been found in 41% of women. The cause is unknown and the patients may be asymptomatic or can report pain, burning or itching. Treatments include sclerotherapy, laser, intense pulsed light, microphlebectomy and thermoablation, but none is established as preferable. OBJECTIVES: To assess the effects of sclerotherapy, laser therapy, intensive pulsed light, thermocoagulation, and microphlebectomy treatments for telangiectasias and reticular veins...

Spider vein is mostly seen in patients with liver disease, although the underlying problem is sometimes unknown. If spider vein appears on the face, it can affect the self-esteem and self-image of patients. Particularly, females are more vulnerable to these complications. Spider nevi are mostly left untreated since they are considered a cosmetic matter; in case of treatment, the procedure is costly with limited satisfaction. Therefore, this study reports the successful treatment of a spider vein case using a microneedling procedure...

Lower limb veins diseases belong to frequently occurring disease syndromes. It covers 62% of adult Poles. They are not only an aesthetic problem. They can cause a lot of subjective and objective ailments significantly reducing the quality of life - from asymptomatic spider veins to permanent pain in lower limbs, especially in standing, fixed edema, skin lesions and ulceration. Superficial chronic venous insufficiency is due to incompetence of the saphenofemoral junction and great or small saphenous vein. Conventional surgery involves high ligation, stripping and phlebectomy...
